Just got myself a 1410A, nice looking 65cc saw (according to Mike acres)
Compression is ok, getting it cleaned up - no spark. My first guess for the cause would be a bad coil - it looks just like the one on my old homelite xl-12, Wico. My question is, am I right to change first the coil? As they are prone to failure in my experience..
Is anyone familiar with the exact coil on this model of saw?
Any help appreciated as always. Thank you!
I would personally check the wires for worn off insulation and try to clean the points and check the gap for .015” before buying a coil.

We owned several 14 series saws from the 14-10 to 14-50 , they were points/condenser saws so the first thing we would try is to make sure the points were clean and gaped to .015.

@ howsitgoineh;
If it's a Prestolite coil (blue) they are notorious for failing if subjected to ANY moisture. I've owned a Farmsaw since late 1979 or early 1980. Mine never gave me any trouble until I foolishly stored it on the ground under a tarp at a GTG in Oregon many many years ago (normally stored on a shelf about 3 feet off a cement slab in my garage).
I brought it home read some of the past texts in this thread about baking the coil. I'm working from memory and it isn't what it once was but I think I baked mine at 200°F for 12 hours. I wanted 16 but my oven wasn't smart enough to exceed 12.
It worked; I've checked it for spark many times and most recently it was still sparking as it did until my brain fart.

Didn't see Jerry's post when I began my novel. Jerry (pioneerguy600) is one of the most informed people that post here. I'd definitely follow his advice.

Thanks Lou. I remember the 14 series having a different coil than most other Pioneers but its been over 30 years since I have worked on or used those saws so memory may be fading some. I read where the OP says the coil looks like the one on his Homelite XL12, maybe someone has tried a coil swap to go electronic to get around using points/condenser.

Good call to check the points. I'll get on that soon. Attached is a couple of photos of each Pioneer 1410, and the old homelite coil.

I think if you pull the flywheel off the Pioneer you will find the mounting bracket different from the Homelite but the coil part will slip off of the mount, it might just fit on the Homelite mount if the center hole is the same size.

Sorry Rocketnorton but I gave all my chainsaw collection and parts to a good buddy of mine prior to my move to Nova Scotia from Newfoundland thinking I wouldn't be playing around with saws again.Bad move which I now regret.Water under the bridge.As for Wolfville i'm approx. 45 minutes west in the Annapolis valley.
