Looking for a two/three saw plan. Currently have a 261 w/18” bar and a 462 w/20” bar and 28” spare should any need arise. I am really liking the 500 but cant decide to add it with a 24” bar and sell the 462 or just add the 500 and call it a day For a three saw stable? Also have a little 150 for real small stuff.

Missouri wood so nothing too major. Any of my saws can handle what I cut so it’s more of a justification for a thee saw plan. I figure 28” bar will be the biggest I will need to run.

You aren't gonna see a measurable difference between a 500 and a 462 with a 24" bar, for a 3 saw plan I'd go 661/462/261.

If you don't wanna do that and keep the 2 saw plan but you want your bigger saw to pull a 28-32" bar a smidge better sell your 462 and get a 500.

I'd get a 661 to add to what you already have personally.

Save your money. Don’t get caught up in the consumer obsession of chasing instant gratification. You mention you have what you need and you already have a 3 saw plan that covers every eventuality, be content with that.

On paper the 500 is real close to the 661in power but the 500 is lighter. Was looking at the 661 until I saw how close they were. No real world experience using them though.

A 661 out snorts a 500i with 32-36 bars, I've ran them both quite a bit.

A 661 also has a better chassis and clutch for bigger bars.

If that applies to your use.. for occasional use that won't really matter.

On the 400… I was looking at the 261, 400 and 500 plan (sell 462 buy 400 and 500) but I hear the 400 is real close to the 462.

Don’t think I will ever get past 28” in my case.

CCs yes, but the 400 is less expensive, lighter and lightening fast at the throttle. I've never ran a 462, but did have a 461 for many years, which was also a great saw.

I don't blame you for wanting a 500i I picked one up with a 25 light bar and it's a screamer. But every YouTube video I watched they are so close in cutting times. It wouldn't make much sense to have Both
