I buy the ms171 for the price, as I am parting them out and selling the parts. You may as well buy a 211 if you can get a good price on one if you ever consider a 171 , its the same saw with more balls.

glad to see it is adjustable,, i might just have to get a 171 now,, i just seen they are 200 bucks
Does he still have the older style, or the new ones like I have here?
Yeah, I decided to keep one for my use around here, nice and light. I sold the bar and chain, sprocket, sprocket cover, scabbard, put on used, so I have less than $100 in it.The newer ones
I was there today and he had 6 brand new ones there , they do the job for the price..i kinda like em'
I won't. I don't care what year is. New from the box and I like it. Run strong. And I pay 149.00 for it.Take it back, tell them you want a new one, see what they say. They would probably have to drag the mgr. out over that one, lol.
Of course I put on the .050 ga. bar and chain, seems to pull it fine.
I just hate that flimsy chain, cutters bend too easy.I run mine with 43 gauge and added the picco rim sprocket to get a little more speed and it runs pretty goodwith the muffler opened up..pulls the rim no problem.
Tri Link, extra picco!!!
It appears to be the same old ms170, with just a different top cover and pull starter. It does make it resemble the newer models.Your newest MS170 is estetically identical to the one we've had here for a year or so. If it's made in China (like the ones we have here) chances are Stihl is simply building the same saw for both the European and US market in the same factory and with the same components with nothing more than different carbs and perhaps mufflers to comply with different emission requirements.
I don't know about the US market, but here the 170 has never sold well, so chances are the lag in the update may be due to Stihl wanting to get rid of unsold stocks before introducing the updated model.
Here is a pic of the ipl pages from PartSmart that show both the new and old style parts,Oh, give me a clone

I just hate that flimsy chain, cutters bend too easy.
