Hi all, long time no post. Good to see the forum back up and many old-timers still around. I see 064 ign coils out there on eBay and other places, but I'd like to know if you can point me to who's selling the better aftermarket stuff. Thank you.

The problem with the aftermarket coils on ebay and the such is that there isn't an aftermarket replacement for what is called the "Dog Leg" coil... There were several ignition options on the 064, and depending on which crankcase you have, you may or may not be able to use an aftermarket one.

i will check too,I converted an 064 to a BB 066 a couple years back and in the process switched out the flywheel/coil and starter because the 064 flywheel broke in half, oops! but I may have the coil around in one of my part crates. I will see if I can dig it up today. as far as I know it was functioning perfect before the upgrade. I believe it was the dogleg style like the one you pictured above. I checked my aftermarket stuff and as stated above nothing available in that style for the 600 series saws is being produced at this point.

I think the part number is actually 0000 400 1300, it's used on everything from 024's through the 064's... and MS240's through MS640's. The replacement version from Stihl looks a little different, but no big deal. Retail is about $113. Unfortunately, it's not used on MS361's or I'd have one for sale.

No, Jacob J is correct....The OP needs 1122 400 1300 for his application. The early 064 cases have no place for the "standard" Stihl coil to mount.

Yeah the 1122 400 1300 is different from the 0000 400 1300 in that the mounts on the laminate are different. Take a close look at the pictures. The timing of the two coils is the same as they're "dummy" coils, meaning they don't have a circuit for advancing or retarding spark. The 064 was the only saw with that funky mount and the crankcase was changed later with an additional mounting hole to accept all types of the coils available at the time. But the 1122 400 1300 and 0000 400 1300 are different coils.

does this help

maybe have to change the flywheel to let a different coil work

Interesting. I couldn't find the 1122 400 1300 in my Stihl stuff. Thanks for the education.

If you can play the wait game, I have seen NOS ones come across the bay. I picked up mine NOS (1122-400-1300) off of Ebay for 45 or 50 bucks. Only took a month or so of waiting.

Same here. Just use your other saws in the meantime. Because you're here, I KNOW you have more than one saw haha

Thanks glock37 for posting the attachment. I'm working on two 066's and one 064 (slowly) and found this very useful. Had no idea of all the changes made. Always learning.

Hey JJ, my saw has the additional mounting hole you mention, although it is untapped. I placed a 0000-400-1300 coil in there and it looks like it will line up with the upper hole on the bottom. Any reason it won't work if I get it tapped out?

You can tap the hole out yourself. I believe it's a 5mm x 0.8mm thread pitch. Most hardware stores and Fasntenals have metric taps.

Sorry for the late post but it just happens than M5 x .8 is 100% interchangeable with 10-32. It's just a quirk of the two measurement systems and it happens one other time with (IIRC) 3/4-16 and M20 x 1.5.
