Wife spoiled me for Christmas...

Just looking it over, I'm impressed with this saw. Especially being able to unscrew two bolts and having full access to the carburetor and those pesky limiter tabs. Can't wait to stick it in some wood.

P.S. - My black lab wasn't nearly as excited as I was.

Decided to compare the weight of this new 620p with two of the other saws I use the most. The first saw is an Echo cs-510, the second-the new Echo cs-620p, and the third is an Echo cs-670. I was surprised how close the weight was between the 620p and the 670...less than 1 pound on the power head. The 620p is supposed to be Echo's latest generation of high performance saw, meant to compete with Husky's 562xp and Stihl's ms362. The 670 was bought about 10 years ago so you would expect to see a little more difference between the new 620p (59.8 cc) and the much older 670 (66.7 cc). I guess if the 620p has the same or more power than the 670, all will be good. As of now, I haven't had the chance to play with this new saw so I'm left wondering.

cs510.....pho = 11.4.....Total w/b&c = 14.0 (20" bar)

cs620p..pho = 13.9.....Total w/b&c = 17.3 (20" bar)

cs670....pho = 14.8.....Total w/b&c = 18.9 (24" bar)

I mentioned how I liked the easy access to the carburetor. Attached are some pics. I also like the fact that the 620p has a metal clutch cover instead of plastic.

whats the muffler look like? got a cat in it?

No cat in the muffler. Muffler appears to be very free flowing except for the deflector plate which has a 90 degree turn before the exit. I will take my dremel and cut the 90 completely out and re-install the deflector. I don't see any reason to modify anything else on the muffler. Echo has made the MM and tune about as easy as it gets on a modern day chainsaw. Does anyone know how they met emission standards with no cat?

don't get to crazy with the muffler mod i gutted the muffler on my 590 and i have to use ear plugs to run it now.

Was surprised to learn that both the Stihl ms362 and the Husqvarna 562xp required a tool (flat head screwdriver) to access the air filter. You would think for that kind of money, they could have designed it to be tool-less. The Stihl cover came off nicely after the screws were unlatched (they don't screw into the frame) . The Husky was a PITA to get the cover off. Didn't like the fuel bulb on the Husky either.

Before anyone flames me, I'm not talking bad about either of these brands. Just a general, once over in the store as a customer would do while comparing saws. The Husky didn't stand out to me as a high end saw especially with the cheaply made air filter. The Stihl on the other hand, nearly made me drool. That saw just exudes quality as it should at a price of $809.95. The prefilter over the filter is top notch, made with quality materials.

Of course, these observations aren't of running the saws. I have family members who run both brands and they are no doubt nice saws. The purpose of this observation is to give information to potential buyers who are comparing the Stihl ms362 ($809.95), the Husqvarna 562xp ($769.95), and the Echo cs-620p ($579 off Ebay, no sales tax & free shipping).

They require a tool because the covers create a 'sealed' chamber, pre-filtering the air flow before it reaches the actual filter. The covers have to fit tightly. But they don't need to be removed as often, as less filter cleaning is needed.

On the older STIHL saws they had the single knob access, but the air filter media had to do all the work - lots of photos of 'filled'/clogged filters.

So it's a trade off.

Huh. They have a price of $809 for a MS 362 R C-M with 25" ES listed for a MS 362 with what appears to be a 20" blade.
