For the bazillionth time on AS....
The Stihl MS361!!!!!
I beat everyone else to this one. My favorite saw of all the saws I have owned. Easy to run, pulls a long bar (long enough anyway), low vibration, good design (probably one of the best saw designs Stihl ever came up with, and an interesting engineering story at that). Good ergonomics, good compromise for weight, torque, HP and ease of use. Fairly easy to modify, and mostly made of metal and high quality plastic.
But it, and like almost every other saw out there now will be gone due to EPA standards come 2010. Two more years people! Then the great saws of this era will be history.

I dig my 390 XP - lots of power, very smooth, has not given me a lick of trouble in the last 1.5 years since I picked it up...

Thats mine by the way. The same heavy as a 088/to current and more BAM+ 30 years older!!

056 Mag II.... Hands down. I searched all over to find it a couple yrs ago. Nothin' runs like that old 56 dude. Even with a 32" bar buried, nothing slows that old hawg down. hehehehehehehe

About eight years ago I turned a saw-milling buddy of mine on to the 056 Mag IIs, and now he has six of them and that's all he'll use.

Yah, I got a big old Mac as a doorstop. 36 inch bar. We got a pair of them originally, my brother and I, 30 some odd years ago. They were old then. I think it is a '63 Mac 380 model, but I am not sure. Full wrap. Not my favorite saw to run. Heavy, hard as hell to start, fussy and smokey. Old ignitions are a pain. Hard to get parts for it. I made some good money with it though, back in the early 1980s. Cut 'n squirt saws.

Homelite 750 & 28" bar for most things. Unless other saws need to be run in the rotation.
044 stihl. Easy to limb with, easy to start cold,warm,in the brush or awkward positions. Cuts fast up to the very big hardwood stuff so its plenty powerful enough for about 90 to 95% of my needs. And most of all its very trustworthy reliable like almost every Stihl I experianced using myself.

Just asked my brother and he likes his 023 with a 14 inch bar.
I don’t own a saw I don’t like or use regularly so picking a favorite is tough. But, I do find myself using the MS361 the most. It wears a 20” bar and full chisel chain and will handle most of my felling and bucking needs effortlessly. The saw I do find the most surprising is the Partner 5000 Plus. That little son of a gun will pull a 3/8” full chisel chain through oak like it’s possessed. Anytime there’s two stroke smoke in the air it’s a good day.

I like all of mine cause they are dependable. I guess the 395 is my best saw but my go to saw is the 260 or the 036.

I've got about 50 or so old saws to choose from so it's hard to say.
But the saws I pick up the most is an 011,028S,044 combo for cuttin' firewood.

Whichever saw is in my hand at the moment.
Another way to look at it though....If somebody said "Come on..We gotta go cut some wood, but I cant tell you what size or what kind or what terrain", I would grab the 044....
