Everything on this thread is just opinions in my book. So at one GTG Brad showed by running them that the 346 was the winner. Does'nt mean that it would have been the winner if I or someonelse was running the saws did'nt want it to be the winner. (SEE HOW THIS WORKS) At another GTG Brad was'nt running the 5100 and the 5100 WON. (SEE HOW THIS WORK YET) All of this argueing is'nt going anywhere and never will. Whoever want's to argue that is'nt going to win! It's a lost cause so pick your poison and run the HE!! out of it.

Your arguement holds no water. Like Andy said, we all ran the STOCK saws in the 50cc shootout. And racing ported saws with race chains has absolutely no merit in this discusion. Besides, I don't play those kinds of games. Let the fastest saw win. I don't care what brand it is. I think I've shown through out my 15000 posts that I tell it like it is.

Someone besides me is making the big deal about Gink beating my saws at the GTG. He won, plain and simple. What you guys are twisting and misrepresenting is that I want to know why so that I can improve. In this case, it was a chain. Plain and simple. I know for a fact that the chain that Gink was using was good for an additional 20% cut time improvement over one of my chains. But that's part of the game. Just a ported saw won't win the race. Just a fast chain won't win if the saws are comparable at all. It takes both. I only brought half of the equation. Gink brought both and took it him. I'm cool with that. I aim to do better next time:) Seriously now, quit making out of it more than what it is.

Further more, Gink and I have no qualms about it. Next GTG you're likely to see us swapping B&Cs simply to find out which saw is indeed fastest. It's all in fun......and bragging rights:)

The Husky is a perfect "woods" saw - the Dolmar is just another good backyard bucking saw.

Well, I guess that makes the 5100 just about perfect for me than.....When in my backwoods blockin & rockin :rockn:.....

FC,

Well, somebody here gets it.

It appears to many it's about the "fastest" at cookie cutting so you can have bragging rights. For the others, get the saw you think is best for you!

good lord!! The poor OP probably gave up and went out and bought a tank of propane.

Lets get back on track, a real REAL wood saw, racing wasn't the point here. Even if A saw is faster than B saw maybe B saw is more practical?? Or maybe more user friendly for someone of a certain size and build??

From reading many many posts on this here forum, I can come to the conclusion that no one saw is perfect for anyone and everything.

So lets look at this from a different aspect, one saw plan, reliable user friendly saw within a respectable price range.

So 50-60cc seems to be a realistic goal ( one set forth by the original OP ).
Also keep in mind that he stated a 18" bar is plenty big.

That being said what saw would you recomend? Me I'd say either the 5100 or the 346ne, either way I think he will be happy. For myself I'd go for the 359 and muf mod it. But I have different goals in mind and I prefer a 20" bar over 18".

I personally don't care if A B or C saw is fast, but which of the alphabet souplets can keep me happy with the least amount of hassle and fuss.

ok I'm done...gonna go post about my new woodshed now!

Exactly - you need to run the same chain and other cutting attachments (or as close as possible) to make a valid comparison - most gtg comparisons fail to meet that criteria! :givebeer:

Niko,

Put down the adult beverage, take a deep breath, and clear your head. Buy the saw you like best. Exactly, that is why the way better handling and trigger response of the Husky makes the exact cutting speed a mute point - the Dolmar lost before the cut started!:givebeer:

Niko, we are going to try to remedy that at our next GTG on Nov 14th.
Stock saws new loops of the same chain. The playing field will be level.
No muff mods or such. Just as they come from the factory. We will get some cuts in with the new loops and then we will run some again after the boys have sharpened them up to see who improves their times.

Where's Gink?
Hey Gink,is it true Brad has a faster saw but you cheated by using a superior chain?Ron

GT,

Exactly what will that prove? Which saw of each example in a certain size and type of wood with a certain operator and one is faster. Is that what will make the OP of theis thread decide.

You decide?

Now wait a minute!!! ............You can muffler mod the 346ne and leave the 5100 stock ..................Its ok to do it that way ........

I'm thinking that we can run them with a rotation of operators. Not just have one saw of each brand , but a few maybe. Get an average. I'm not trying to persuade the OP of this thread one way or another. He has to decide what he likes for himself.

How about a different piston?:monkey:

Mine were bone stock minus spark screens when I "tested" them in birch, with exactly the same cutting attachment on both - I was a bit surpriced that the Husky consistantly was faster - I'd thought they would be closer.

Yeah It's all true I showed up at a saw race with a sharp chain:) I guess I never recieved a memo saying that is a unfair practice. LOL Now a full fledge race chain...well.... I'm not so sure I've ever seen a full on race chain:confused:

But I can say I actually ran a few faster times then what was posted, I re-timed a few and found I got into the 1.70's a couple times, so I don't know... what was 20% of 1.70- 1.75's Hmmm I might still have won... Hahaha:greenchainsaw:

Others have seen it the other way around ......

I would expect you of all people to have the results you have being the #1 cheerleader for the 346NE .........:)
