Most guys call this torque, but I think it more accurate to say that the power band is wider and the saw will still pull real good when the RPM's drop a bit in bigger wood.

I've only ran a 288 a few times. If I recall correctly the 288 was real torque saw, more so than a 390, but the 390 has the chain speed.

And I guess the 390 has better buffers.I have an old 288 still has plenty of compression the weak link seems to be the pullstart system the compression wreaks havoc on it.
