Negative batman. For 6 or 7 years before I found this site my only two saws were a 365 18" and a 365special with a 20"/28". Plenty light enough for all days uses and enough grunt to run a big bar if the need arises. I don't see a stock 357 or 359 doing that.
All you "its too heavy people" need to run around carrying an 046/066 or poulan countervibe around the woods all day and then tell me about heavy.

I did a Pouland countervibe for 12 years and a 245A for 12 years before that.
A 365 is Too Heavy for carrying all day at this point in my life!
562xp is now my Big Saw! Can run it all day with a huge smile on my face. :msp_smile:

I always think about that when I pick up an old McCuloch, Homelite, or Pioneer and think what bad MOFO'S those guys had to have been who carried these beasts around the woods all day. Those old Pioneers had a footrest on them for holding the saw down when yanking on the rope.
I am getting older and worn out. If I can get a load of wood in with my Ryobi, thats the saw I'm using. I guess I am a WOOSSIE.

I got a 2159. Use it probably 60% of the time. Been finding myself using the 2172 more and more. The 2159 has been a great saw for me tho. Bought it 4 years ago if my memory serves me right. It's the first saw I ever bought and ever thought I would need til I started reading threads on this awesome place.
I did the exact same thing 5 years ago with a 359. Great saw for a non-pro (not saying' u are, but I am), the drought hit and I lost 100 big trees in 18 mos. Picked up a used 385xp, which did the job amazingly well. It started raining again, and I went back to the 359 for most stuff (18 bar is best IMO). Picked up a 445 cause my father couldnt start the 359, and his "help" involved me having to find him every time I heard the saw stop. Being senile, I backed over the 359 with the bush hog, turning it into small pieces. Now I use the 385 most of the time, and it balances so well with a 28 that it doesn't feel that heavy (and I am apparently the only man here under 6' 4" and 250 lbs). But now, because of this accursed site, I'm thinking maybe I need another saw in the middle. The Saw Troll seems to be fond of the ms290
Well I just read this post and am not surprised that it makes no sense (senile), but I've invested too much time to quit. When I started I meant to say the 359 should be fine, and stay off this site, or risk financial ruin!

The 2156 and 2159 are not on their way out.............they're already gone. Both models have been removed from the current price list and are NLA. Obviously, the next 2 to go will be the 2152 and 2153 as they will be following the 353 and 346 into the history books.
So, this will be an interesting year for Jonsered in the US one way or another. :msp_sneaky: With all of the above models out of the line up, there is no line up. Someone needs to embrace the new auto-tune models, and sooner rather than later.

Most of the guys who logged the Northwoods were not big by todays' standards.
But swinging a double bit ax all day made them pound for pound some of the strongest men ever to walk Gods green Earth!

I figured you would have purchased a saw by now phil. Don't overthink it, you are cutting firewood. Get the best deal you can from the best dealer near you.

I just bought my 2159 a couple of months ago. I could have bought a 2156 for about $650, so he may not be that far off. I opted for the 2159 at $524. Same weight, 0.3 hp less, and $125 in my pocket. I mostly just cut firewood too.

I wasn't talking about the prices themselves. (Both of your prices are pretty good) I was referring to the fact that neither saw is on the current price list at all, as they are no longer available. If he has to order it, he's out of luck.

If money is the deal maker or breaker here and you can't get either of these Johnys, buy an Efco 156 or 165. Both excellant saws that can be bought on line for a good bit cheaper than you're shopping around for. They are both in the class of a 2159. I'm sure if you search you'll find a 2159 though. The 2 J-Red dealers near me have them on the shelves.
