026 Carburetor Rebuild - The Saga Continues

So, my crankshaft oil seals are on track to arrive tomorrow. That being said, I need suggestions on getting them out without the super expensive seal puller. I'm thinking about sacrificing one of my cheap little screwdrivers and either heating it hot and bending it 90 degrees towards the tip. Either that or cutting a notch in one of the screwdrivers towards the tip so I can wedge that against the crankshaft and use the notch to pull the seal. If all else fails, drill a small hole in the seal and insert a drywall screw and use pliers to pry the seal up. Well , that's what I've come up with in my pea sized brain. Can anyone offer any advice. I may go try tonight if I get some validation.
 
That flywheel should be clean and dry, same for the taper. Anything between the mating surfaces will allow slippage and another key. Dry and tight, just the opposite of what you'd think. The key only holds the timing position, the nut holds it tight. I've run many without a key, still running today!

Don't torch the screw driver, put a notch in it, drive the seal down just to loosen it. After you get the seal out with the screw driver check the bore for nicks or burrs before putting in the new seal.
 
If you plan on pulling the flywheel again. .020" off the right side of the key is very helpful with this particular saw.
 
So I got that flywheel side oil seal off with a little... Well, let's call it persuasion. It was tougher than I thought, but hopefully the clutch side will come off as easily or easier. I'm pumped to get this saw back to working condition.
 
Wish I had gotten the stronger picks now, but next time I'm up there I will. I still don't think they could have handled this particular removal as the seal was really wedged in tight. Is the spring psrt of the oil seal?

Yes the spring is part of the seal.
 
So, here we go: I got both seals replaced, and while doing so, just happened to retest my pressure. No dice. Spray some soapy water and a bunch of good lighting reveals that my boot is leaking! Both seals were leaking, the boot, who knows what else, but I'm going through this thing top to bottom. It will work when I'm done. Or, at least that's what I keep telling myself. Oh yeah, did I mention my brake band broke? WTH, order one of those, too. This thing might as well get a paint job when I'm through with it cause the only thing that's gonna end up being original is the case, break mechanism, and oil pump. Heck, I even replaced the handle with a metal/plastic wrapped job, because the other one was broke. All or nothin'. This thing will end up paying for itself, but never in labor. Just gonna keep logging my progress here. Wow, that clutch side oil seal was sooo much easier to pull than that flywheel side. Oh, well... It's all in the past now, just hope it works out in the end. New jug, piston, fuel intake line, boot, and all the other necessary goodies - here we come!
