I agree with you that the air filtration on your 6100 is a better quality setup than the 590/600/620. But I've not had any problems

I had a few problems but it was my fault. I pulled the black velocity stack out of the air filter itself. Noticeable gain in performance but loss in some filtration.

Wonder how a 6100 with a MM would perform relative to those saws?
The 6100 doesn't need or gain anything from a mm.
I have some videos up on my youtube channel. One is cutting through bar length white oak in better times then the 562 vs 590 video. I would really like to see a broken in 6100 run against a 562. All of the videos on you tube are of a new 6100 staying right close to a broken in 562.

I did some more cutting the other day, with some carb tuning on the Echo. The 590 closed the gap to about one second. One must ask the question, is that 5% - 10% worth the extra cost? to some yes, others not so much. Also in the price range there is no real competition that I can see, I mean really the echo is a $400 saw you buy at HD, saws like the 362 and 562 are sometimes about double that. Echo knows what they're doing right now, and that is eating up a chunk of the high end homeowner market. This is not to say the other Ranch/farm saws are not good saws, it's simply a fact we now have a better option IMHO.

After catching up on the thread I'll agree with most of the posts. There's better saws then the 590. I'd be a dolmar guy if I didn't feel like the only dealer here should be hit by a car. I still feel if your just out to cut fire wood for the home the 590 is the best option. My next saw will be a domar 7900. My brother wants my 590 to replace his problematic 028 so it may move on to help cover the domar. Its been a great saw never bulked at burying the 20 inch bar in oak or hard maple like in the pictures I posted on page 1.

I'd bet a muff modd wont help a 562 much, maybe a little you can bet they don't have a clogged up muff to start with. Steve

Their mufflers are really restrictive and just opening the outlet a little give very tangible results. Gut the baffle inside and it runs even stronger. They have a baffle that runs down the middle of the muffler and deflect the exhaust gasses down. The opening is up.

You ever see or put a trio of a 555 562 and 6100 together using the same chain & bar length (can't swap bars as the 555 is small mount). What are the price differences? A 555 isn't that far off a 562 in my world. Does the 6100 split the difference in both price and performance??

Interesting thread. I don't think I've ever seen such consensus about one saw, at the OPs price point on AS (or any other forum)? The 590 really is a solid bargain saw for under $400. Actually see them regularly for less new on evilbay and CL. Are they the best 60cc saw ever? Uh, no. But in terms of a simple, serviceable, reliable tool to fit a budget. Nothing else beats it right now. Nothing. Not much changes if you add another $100 to the retail price. How often does that get said on AS?

In my country a echo 590 retails over a grand. I have yet to see anyone buy one or a used one on the market. At $400 msrp they make sense in the US market. If all the Echo 590 fans had to pay similar cost to a ms362cm or 562xp....I wonder how many would still own them. Price is what sells the 590 period. Not saying they are a bad saw.

Speaking only for myself here: I've never owned a 590 but given the choice between a ms362, a 562xp, or a 600p/620p, I would choose the 600p/620p even if they were all priced the same. I love the quality of build and simplicity of the Echo's and I DON'T want an auto tune saw of any flavor.

Echo saws have A LOT more going for them then just a good price point.

Price is why Homelite and Poulan saws sell period. I have held both Echo and Husqvarna saws and the build quality is professional grade. I would not say price is the only reason the Echo saws sell.

I am not sure about price the 6100 locally in SE Iowa is now $600. Ish depending on what bar and chain and ever saw I have bought he throws in a couple six packs of oil and extra chain and hat. Depends on his mood and how much I haggle lol.

Last I checked one of the site sponsors had a 6100 with wrap handle for $579 I think.
The 6100 has a small mount the same as the 555. I only know how the 6100 runs and I would love to see a good comparison between the three.
The 6100 has such a great power band and torque it surprises everyone who has ran mine. It pulls real hard from 8,000 to 13,000 rpm
Makes it really fun to cut with.

You are totally wrong - and there is nothing new with that...

So what is the mystery about the 590? It's an absolutely typical, straightforward saw - it looks like a well executed product with the same technology developed decades ago. Echo decided to go after a particular market segment and undercut everyone, which they are in a good position to do as they don't have a large investment in new engine tech to pay off. This kind of stuff happens all the time in all sorts of markets - it doesn't mean they have some magic formula.
