why husky saws are cheaper than stihl? an honest question

They're nice saws. A 372 is cheaper to buy, cheaper to put parts on, has an OEM wrap handlebar available from the factory for $30, and has a proven track record. Autotune is great when it's working right, but many guys prefer a standard carb as well.

Would I like to own a 462? Sure. Would I rather own a 372 and a 346 for the same price? Yep. Every time.
my hang up is the auto tune stuff, people claim there reliable. but if something breaks its bigger $$$

i bet every suburban home owner gets a woody watching it.

Everytime I go to my pain management Dr, he asks me what saw he should buy, expecting i guess that I've done research on all of them and am an expert.

I told him for his occasional yard work to pick a color of cordless tools and buy a cordless saw, and pickup a drill, impact, circ saw, etc.

I’ve never seen so many husky fans until I joined here. All the tree companies around here use Stihl or echo and Stihl leads that by a long shot. I’m good friends with one local tree professional, He has mostly stihl saws and a few echos. He has a pair of echo blowers and husky has never come out of his mouth. I think it depends on the area really. I’m also in the market for a 70cc saw, A husky isn’t on my radar.

so ive always been a stihl fan, never looked at huskys. plus it helped that i had a family member who was a dealer and got everything at cost. well that option is no longer around and im looking at new saws and because i dont have any more hookups so to speak. i am looking at other options aka husky, i cant believe how much cheaper they are compared to stihl. also cant understand as to why? maybe you guys can explain. with out bashing.
At the end of the day you get what you pay for.

Most of those companies get discounts for volume purchases, and or service contracts. At the township we ran stihl because of the state bid. That changed when the dealer started becoming a spark plug replacement specialist, or told us the saw, trimmer, or blower was junk and just needed a carb kit and filters. They moved to husqy saws and echo for the trimmers and such. It was sad really as our older stuff never gave us crap, and the newer saws had good power. The dealer just wasnt up to par.

Really depends on where you are and if the forestry companies got a deal from one or the other.

Here you will see modified Huskies 3x the cost of a new stihl.

Both companies sell saws in the homeowner’, ‘mid’ or ‘farm / ranch’, and ‘Pro’ ranges, priced accordingly.

STIHL he has spent considerable effort to establish themselves as a “premium“ brand; to support an exclusive dealer network; and to enforce MSRP. Husqvarna’s sales network allows for more price competition, Internet sales, etc.

Both brands have strong, loyal, followings.

I am happy to run both (no brand tattoos on me!)

This seems like the most accurate answer, i am not a marketing expert but i can speak from a dealer standpoint. We don't sell saws, we do sell generators. I get asked a lot why are Kohler so much more than a Generac, but honestly cannot say they are a better unit, i will say that Kohler is a better company, both for the dealer and the end user because of their dealer support. Generac sells through big box stores or anyone with a pulse, it is easy to become a sales dealer, very difficult to become a servicing dealer, they flood the market with units and then dint have enough people to service them. I suspect its similar to Cat/Case construction equipment etc etc.
personally i have 5 Husqvarna saws out there and each and every one had given me nothing but outstanding service. I have and will buy another in a heartbeat.
to me what makes the difference is the dealer, i like the stihl deal a great deal, but he's 20 miles away my Husqvarna dealer is 4. Its easy math for me.

I have multiple dealers around for both and only one decent dealer, that happens to sell both brands. Although the seem to do better with husqy parts then stihl for some reason.

Rebuilding a Loggers 372xt at the moment, stated he was done with it because of broken clutch side case, pulled it down and cylinder, piston, crank are in very nice condition. Installing new SKF bearings, seals, gaskets, fuel/impulse lines, Caber rings and should be ready for another smack down.

That's no answer to his question. Why are Husky saws less expensive than Stihl saws, was the question. Not buying china copies.
Unfortunately they are not exactly copies, they come from the same factories.

just got back from shop, ms462 was nice but not 1100 nice. 372 was well a 372. the 572xp felt very stout n well built, felt better in hand than the 372. really contaplating it, the auto tune has me gun shy though..

I would not be shy, its great, the 562 is terrific it’s running at its peak all the time, no fussing, no fiddling. They seem to have it down now. I will buy another in a second.
