I had a 01 Ram 2500 with the cummins that had 235,000 on it IIRC when I got rid of it. The front end life on that rig was about 30,000 miles. I replaced the transmission x2, the transfer case x1, 2 injection pumps under warranty and 1 post warranty after I added a FASS system, 1 AC compressor , fron wheel bearings x2 , rear wheel bearings x1 and it had holes rusted through it in under 10 years. And this is just the stuff I can remember...
Easily the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned.
X2 the 94 2500 I had was the biggest pos ever made. Only thing that survived is the engine and nv4500. Thats all swapped into my 79 f350 right now. Front ends were straight up garbage. Didn't have those issues with the 07 3500 I had as a service truck. Had all kinds of other issues though.

It tells you know one will pay retail for one of those pieces of garbage. The increased purchase price is gained back and more upon resale.
Toyota certainly did have some frame corrosion issues. This was due to Dana Corp using substandard steel. Toyota warrantied thousands of those truck, which the big three would never do.
My Tacoma spent the first 6 years of its life in the highest salt use area in NA and its frame doesn't show anything other than very minor surface rust and the body shows no rust at all.
Your last sentence is the typical mentality of the guys that buy big three trucks. It's asinine IMO to go into a major purchase knowing the rig will be a piece of junk.

LOL. Is that really all it takes for you to get worked up? Don't run out of blood pressure medication, whatever you do. Toyota doesnt make a truck that will pull any of my 3 trailers so its a moot point, but the frame issues weren't the last of their problems. Just look inside the bed of most any 10 year old Tundra and you'll see....asphalt 😂
BTW, the frame replacement deal, which affected the 4runner, Sequoia, Tundra, Taco, wasn't "voluntary" as you called it. It was the result of a NHTSA investigation from spare tires falling off while going down the highway because there was no frame left, and a class action lawsuit that cost Toyota nearly $4 billion. Dam those bean counters, wonder if they came from Dodge?
Even the farmers that buy half tons around here dont buy Toyotas, what's that tell you? They are some of the most buisiness savy guys you will find. All in all they're decent trucks but they're still over priced, and they still have their own problems. The new redesign that came in 22 with the turbo v6 has been problematic and warranty heavy. Time will tell whether it's growing pains or if Toyota is suffering from value engineering again, like they did with their frames. Enjoy your Taco.
I'll enjoy getting 20 years out of my 3rd Dodge, with nothing but routine maintenance.

Another junk Dodge 🙂
This one's only made it 33 years and counting. Probably dumb luck 🙃

I can tell you first hand, my 90 w250 held up way better then the 94. The kid that bought the 90 off me still drives it. It's his "classic" truck. That 94 I had yoi could see the road if you lifted the floor mat up. It's was just junk, not one of dodges finer productions.

What gives you the impression I am worked up?
Just like your bogus pricing comparison your comments on the rusted frame issue are not accurate. Toyota was warrantieing frames before the NTSB became involved.
You do realise that Toyota dominates the truck market in the rest of the world? You do realise the rest of the world view what the big 3 make as junk?
Brand loyalty is a ridiculous force for some of you guys..
I really wish Ram and GM did make a quality vehicle as I get employee pricing on them, but they don't and I won't spend my money on another.
If you are towing heavy loads there is no real alternative to BIG 3 junk as you noted. Thankfully I no longer have to do that.
The only way yourbgetting 20 years on a Dodge, Chevy or Ford with just minor maintenance is if you don't use it much.

I have Chevy ,Ford and Ram trucks and a Lexus RX350 SUV guess which one hasn't had one failure ? The Lexus is 10 never broke. The three others always seem too.

If your comparing a Lexus to a Chevy, Ford, or Ram truck I see the problem. If you don't need a truck don't buy a truck.

Your right. 260k, 380k on both gen 2's. 140k miles and counting on the Gen 4 which is way more truck than Toyota ever dreamed of making, or for that matter, either Gen 2 I previously owned. You literally can't compare any of them to Toyota because there is no comparison.

The pricing is not bogus. I said close to $10k on base models msrp and I'm not far off. Also, Why the need for an investigation or lawsuit if they were acting in good will? Your brand loyalty is really starting to show, and it's blinding you. Toyota has fallen victim to value engineering in some way shape or form since the day they got shipped stateside. Fact.

I've got Dodge, Ford, VW, and Toyota in my driveway. They all have their purpose. If Toyota made a real truck and it wasn't priced to the moon I might actually buy it. Probably not, because I've owned enough of their trucks to know what they are. But might.

What gives you the impression I am worked up?

Because you took the factual statements I made offensively as if it was a reflection of you. Facts are facts. Toyota got problems just like the rest of em.

Forgot this little nugget. North America truck market is relegated to....the North America truck market. What is built in the rest of the world is....irrelevant. Your brand loyalty is showing, again 😂

Volkswagen. Although I don't really find that testing used vehicles to be a fair comparison for emission testing, but yep government mandated buybacks I would guess should count.

You get it (aside from the topic of pickups)

They ALL got problems. That means all of them.
Anyone that sticks their nose in the air over brand X is delusional.

Well I can tell you there are a few brands I flat out won't buy, but I'm normally whatever ever I can pick up cheap that's reliable. Thinking of the dirty vw should be bringing home an 01 tdi end od this week.

ALH platform, thats a good one. Mechanical injectors, rotory pump.
Biggest thing to watch for is dry rotted vacuum lines, they can wreak havoc and can be hard to spot. Timing belt every 120k as long as it's been done once. Original intervals were 80k but OE components have all been updated to 120k intervals.

I've got 2 VW's. My 2001 has 270k miles. Bought 2010 at 90k for a commuter. Driven in the salt and slush daily on the highway since. Still on original brake and fuel lines. If you are lucky enough to get one that hasn't been banged up and repaired a bunch they are good cars with good corrosion protection.

Getting this one from a guy at work. Since I parked my cummins, I've been meaning to get something to play with. I had an 86 pre cup turbo diesel for a few years was a fun little car to beat around. Timing belt was just done 2 years ago. He's kept up with it pretty well. Ac doesn't work, and it has a few other minor issues but overall it's pretty solid. Have a list of stuff I'd like to do to it, but that is on hold till my shop is finished.
