If you want to run it with much authority go with 80 plus cc's at least.

For a 30" doing any kind of regular cutting a Dolmar 7900 is minimum. Maybe a Stihl 460 with some mods or a Solo 681. The Echo CS-8000 might do the job too but it'd be sort of slow. For real performance you'd have to step up to a 385XP, MS 660, Shinny 757 or something even bigger.

bar halp

you could for light duty cuttin use 60cc saw with skip.

10" - 16" 25cc - 50cc
18" - 24" 50cc - 60cc
28" - 36" 70cc - 90cc
42" - 84" 90cc - 130cc
:givebeer:

10" - 16" comp chain .250 OR .365
18" - 24" comp or semi skip chain .325 OR .365 OR .375
28" - 36" skip or semi skip chain .375 OR .404
42" - 84" skip only .404

Kwdog75,
I got that ol' CS4400, it just keeps going, and going, and going.
I cut about 8-10 times a year 40" pecan trunks for turning and woodworking wood. Got a Echo CS 620 (or what ever the exact model # is) and it is not enought for a 30" bar in hard, old oak or pecan. The big Echo CS-8000 would probably do it, but wanted something to also use in a chainsaw mill.
So got the Stihl MS660 with a 32" bar. It does the job real good. I really like it. Also got a 24" bar for limbing trees and small stuff. Kind of overkill, but fun and good exercise.
The MS 460 would have worked just for the cross-cuts, but for any mill work, the 660 is a real good choice.
That said, I would be now open to any of the older Stihl saw in that size, the 064, 056, 090, etc.
Guess I really believe in a good 3 saw plan. Baby saw, Mama saw, and big ol Daddy saw that can handle anything one can desire.

Depends on where you're cuttin' and what you're cuttin' in...

60cc saws here see 24" bars all the time...

70cc saws here see up to 32" bars...

So it's all relevent to what you are cuttin', and the conditions you cut in...

:agree2:

Like my first post, and the saws I listed. see it all the time.

Balance and saw handling is key. Bar length suitable for the job. I have 2 new 36" bars for my 066 Stihl, I never use them ,just awkward and front end heavy for what I use the saw for. And the 066 is a long heavy powerhead. My standard 066 bar is 28".
24" on my 372XP,20" on the 044,16" on the 026,12-14"on the MS200. Oh can't forget my 090AV,42"and 60". LOL.

Balance? LMAO...

I "balance" with my saw while walkin' spars, limbin' as I go. 044 with a 28" bar...

Balance is for gymnasts...

Maybe you meant "balast"... I need to tie 3 rolls of quarters to my rear handle to offset the 28" bar on my 044...

Sorry... again... it's all relative to the conditions. But I digress... I have not cut 35,000,000 trees either... :)
