Plus one for the purple stuff, I use ProForce Heavy Duty Degreaser from Sam's Club. The mix ratio depends on how stubborn the gunk is. I've never had a problem with it, but I'm careful not to let any part, metal or plastic, soak for too long, & I rinse and dry the parts thoroughly. An icepick or even a thin nail works well if you're determined to clean every nook and cranny.

And plus one for clean saws bringing better prices. I'm not sure why more sellers on eBay don't put a little effort into cleaning their saws before they list them.
