Wow this post should be stickied to be like an eisode of scared straight for anyone even thinking of building their own splitter vs buying, lol.
Sounds like you have yourself one hell of a splitter now, do you have any pics or a build thread yet?

Sounds like it will be a $3500 to $4000 splitter when you are done. Look forward to seeing the finish product.

Also sounds like you need to invest in a full face shield to use with your safety glasses when cutting and grinding.

i can fabricate a splitter, but cant post pics......
ill try and get the wife to post some pics. Dont know why but i didnt take any pics along the build
ill take some of almost complete splitter today, just waiting for control valve and some hoses to show up

Tahnks to all that answered some questions i had and for the info i found in the threads!

know what you mean my splitter looks like crap countless hours of work I know you can.t buy a swing axel anyware other than the eye injury your hard work will pay off

you can build a splitter much cheaper than that.....
mine has a hydraulic log lift, and a 5" cylinder and i have less than $700 into the whole thing. i bought the cylinder, the valve, the pump, and its mount new; the rest was all scrap/found/given metal, and used parts.

my tools list:
drill press
band saw
tombstone stick welder
cordless drill
torch
disc sander (bench grinders are soo overrated)

i could have built the whole thing w/my bandsaw, welder, and a drill press.

if you have to buy everything to build a splitter, its kinda a waste of time/$$.

Same here. Total bill was less than $600.
