I was cleaning my saws today and I thought I would pull out the scales.

I got on the net to see what a gallon of whole milk weighed, (8.6lb) and checked the scales. Yep the milk is 8.6lb.

First off was the Shindaiwa 488 no gas/oil no bar/chain = 11.0 lb
Oil/Gas topped off, Oregon 16’’ bar sporting new 20LP chain, that came in at 15.0 lb

Next was the PS7900 Dolmar EHP no gas/oil no bar/chain = 14.8 lb
Oil/Gas topped off, GB 20’’PRO-CUT bar sporting new 72LGX chain, came in at 19.8 lb

Didn’t bother putting the 32’’ bar/chain on. Too heavy unless really needed I do like the 20’’ though, it just feels right with this bar and a 8 pin.

I was surprised that the Shin weighed in at 15 lbs ready to cut, because it feels 10.0 lb lighter than the Dolmar.

I would like to know what the ready to cut weight comes in at on your saws.

For some reason my saws don’t cut very well at there advertised weight.

wow, im supprised at the weight of the 488 with a claimed 10.1lbs. your scale may be off by a 1/10 or 2.

i weighed a 6401 and its was 14lbs, 7.5oz, never any gas/oil so your real close.

Here are a few more actual weights for your consideration. All new saws, never fueled/oiled.

thanks for posting those weights. its good to see the actual saw #'s instead of published.

looks like the 490 went on a diet. :)

WoW! look at the weight of the 510!!

those 446's are neet little saws. the weight is even more remarkable given the easystart sytem.

No real surprices there!

Good work! :) :)

Don't really want to know if I already own it. If the weight doesn't interfer with my using the saw, and it hasn't ever been an issue for me with any saw, then why bother.

For that matter I don't even weigh myself anymore, but I know that the number is three digits and the first two are hopefully still 2 and 4.

I've really never wanted to weigh any of them. I do know that they are a LOT heavier at the end of the day!.....Cliff

Yeah! I hear that.My saw eats a lot of wood so it weighs about 15 or so LBS more at the end of the day:greenchainsaw: :dizzy:

When the saw asks you "Does that bar makes my rear handle look fat?", you are supposed to say "No, it brings out the orange highlights". You are not supposed to put them on the scale. There will be counseling in your future.

Thanks for posting the weights.

I was really surprised with the 488; it doesn’t feel bad at all when limbing. Of course the 5100 that I picked up the other day felt pretty good also, it had an 18’’ bar/chain.

A while ago during the bathroom remodel the scale wound up in the cellar with the saws. Here are the results. I weighed all with the bar and chain attached and with gas and oil since I've never been able to make a saw work very well without them.

Husky 357XP fully tanked 16 inch 3/8 B & C 16-1/2 lbs.

Stihl MS192T fully tanked 14 inch 3/8 low pro B & C 9 lbs

Dolmar 7900 fully tanked 28 inch 3/8 semi skip B & C 20.5 lbs

Husky 268XP fully tanked 20 inch 3/8 B & C 17 lbs.

The old 268XP even with its metal chain brake was quite a surprise. Wonder if I actually cleaned it what would happen.

Take Care

Remember that the brand and model of bar can make quite a difference.....

It’s kind of weird that a saw feels heavy until I hit the woods. When I fired up the 488 and the 7900 today they both felt light.

I have been eyeing the 192 T and a 3410 TH, the 192 felt real comfy without gas/oil. Hadn’t had the chance to hold the 3410 yet.

Thanks for posting.

I suspect your scale is a bit optimistic, given the bars you listed......:)
