Hi Everyone,
The other thread was getting a little cumbersome, but we're still collecting donations and selling tickets to help my brother. Here's his situation as quoted from the other thread.

My brother in South Carolina recently had a massive stroke that left him mostly paralyzed on the right side. He's the sole provider for his family. In addition, because of the economic downturn, his daughter and son-in-law (both good kids) had been depending on him for help until things get better.

He is going through physical therapy at the moment, but the prospects of his returning to his old job are slim. He will be eligible for a disability pension from his employer, but that won't kick in for 6 months.

I've talked to him on the phone and, although his speech is slurred, I can tell he's keeping his spirits up. My brother, Jock, is a man's man and would do anything for a person in need. It pains him to admit it, because he's fiercely independent, but he finally broke down and told me he needs help with the medical bills and to keep things going until his disability kicks in.

I'm going to give away my MS660 to raise funds to send to Jock. You all, my Arboristsite family, are some of the finest, big-hearted people I know. I hope you all don't think I'm taking advantage of your kindness, but I know good people when I see them, so I thought I'd come to ask for your help.

I am giving away a very nice Stihl 660 and EdRitchey has donated a brand-new John Deere (Efco) CS62 chainsaw. The first name drawn will have his choice of chainsaws and the second name pulled in the drawing will receive the remaining saw.

If you would like to make donations only, please send these to my PayPal address at:

joel.percival@gmail.com (Make sure you put the dot between "joel" and "percival")
If you send your donation as a "Gift" and do a direct transfer from you bank account, we won't have fees. In the notes, please just put you Arboristsite user name.

If you would like to participate in the Give-Away, tickets are $12 each and contributions can be sent to:

Joel Percival
P.O. Box 1258
Vernal, UT 84078

NOTE: All tickets purchased previously through PP on the old thread are still in the drawing so you are all set. This post applies to those who have not yet entered as of the beginning of this new thread.

Make sure I have your Arboristsite username and an address to send the saw should you be the lucky winner.

There is no time limit for straight donations, but the drawing for the Give-Away will be held on Saturday, September 26. So if you want to participate, please have your ticket requests in the mail to arrive by then. I wouldn't wait later than 9/21 to get them in the mail.

Here are pictures of and a description of the MS660 by Brad Snelling who prepared it for the Give-Away:
This saw was in good condition when I got it. It just needed some cleaning and TLC. I completely disassembled the entire saw, even splitting the cases and removing the crank and bearings. The crank bearings are tight and smooth with no play at all. The P&C are in perfect condition having never seen a score or any damage at all. I reassembled the saw using Caber rings to make the engine fresh. All seals and gaskets are OEM Stihl. I installed a new rim sprocket and spark plug, cleaned the carb , and cut off the limiter cap tabs. I did not port this saw, but I did polish up the exhaust port a little while cleaning out the carbon. I decarboned the combustion chamber and piston crown. I also opened up the baffle in the muffler and enlarged the factory exhaust exit. The spark arrestor is still intact for those of you needing one. The saw is tuned to 14K in the video and still 4-stroking. It looks to be a strong runner. For all intents an purposes, this is a new saw. It starts and runs great. Everything functions as it should.

The saw is already drained of fuel and oil, and will be shipped directly from my place one a winner is selected.

I can't include pictures of the John Deere because I'm out of space, but they'll be in my next post

Here is a few pictures of the saw I put in the mail to Joel today it looks like it will be for the second place winner of his raffle... I originally set this saw up for my brother but he never used it so I'm sure somebody here will give it a good work out and the money is going to a good cause. The box will include the original owners manual the scrench and the chain guard in the pictures. These saws are well built and this one is setup with 3/8" .050 chain and a 7 pin rim. 20" Husky bar (Rebadged Oregon).

Cool. Its going better then i thought it would but then again this is AS!

My friends,
Anyone who bought tickets up to this point through PP on the old thread still has there tickets entered into the Give-Away. Starting today, all future Give-Away tickets will need to come through regular mail while straight donations can be processed through PP.

Here is the list to date of contributors. Note that the donation amounts are not listed. I'm guessing that some of you would not want that revealed. However if you want to confirm the donation amount, send me a PM.

Also if you have contributed twice, keep going down the list and look for your name to appear again. In addition, if you don't see your name on the list and you believe it should be there, let me know...but I've tried to be very careful. These are sacred funds in my mind:

These are all PP contributions. I'm still awaiting pledged snail mail funds

Update for 9/16/09

We hit a bump in the road today, but we're back on track with a new thread and I expect regular mail contributions to start arriving tomorrow.

Total Contributions to Date (as of 19:02 MST): $1857.37

Thanks again, all of you, for your kindness and your trust. What you're doing is going to change despair into hope for Jock. My family is praying that your deeds will be returned 100 times unto your own family.

Great post. Thanks

Check is in the mail from Minnesota - -

First off, Joel - you're a true man for helping out family and I hope all goes well.

To the rest of AS, I have been following this site for 1 year now - started with one saw, now I have 10. I wish there was a way I could pay all of you for what I have learned - from modded mufflers to PPE, this site covers it all.

I'm not smart enough to give advice on how to port a saw or what chain to use. For me, giving to this cause is a way to pay a small piece back to the group.

For the rest of you who are like me sitting in the background sucking up all of the knowledge, this is your chance to give something back. Joel has done the difficult task of asking for help; not from your brain but from your wallet. Times are tough but, I think this is a great way to give back a small chunk of what you have taken.

Thanks again to Joel for the hard work for your family and thanks again to everyone else for filling up my garage with saws. http://www.arboristsite.com/images/smilies/cheers.gif

Very kind kind words, sir. Thank you very much.

I'm in

Don't know how I missed the original post, but I'm in. Check will be sent today. Best of luck with this, and best wishes for your brother. JR
