NOS 268XP.........Well Sort Of

I've got a lovely saw on my bench...absolutely beautiful. Steven bought it from a seller on another site.....kept it awhile (never fueled) then passed it on.

Niko noticed right away that something was a bit "off" with the tag on the case (year mostly) and the starter cover and top cover decals. Niko was spot on. It isn't a true 268XP. Someone built it from NOS and used parts. Very few used parts though.

At any rate the buyer got it from Steven at a great price, and the fact that it had a non XP top end was made clear in the sale thread.

It sorta bugs me because Steven thought he had bought a NOS saw, and this saw was built by someone then passed off as NOS.

Here's one mistake Niko noticed.......it should just have one of these bumpers.......on the PTO side.

A lot of 2 series saws are still being built in Brazil.........I wonder if this saw started life as a 61 from there?????

The clutch ain't right either........this clutch is a newer design that this saw should have.

Right here is when I realized that the saw was built from parts........the flywheel is used.

If you look at the left-hand side of the plastic screwdriver adjustment guide you see some dirt in the crevise too.

Too bad it was bought under false pretense. Still a damn nice saw. Excellent looking.
