I'm sorry if this has been answered before, I tried a search and came up empty.

I'm new here. Currently own a Stihl 066 and 390 and 6-025/250's. I'm enjoying rebuilding 025's right now. The size and weight are just right for what I need as an everyday saw.

I'm interested in getting a bit more power out of them. I know they're a clamshell saw and mods are more difficult on them.

I plan on muffler mods and I bought a a few WT215's for the ones with the non adjustable H carbs.

How does one go about advancing the spark timing on these saws? Is it even possible?

I'm looking for any ways to increase the output to run a full chisel RS chain on an 18" bar with ease.

Thanks in advance.

Spark is advanced by removing a small (~1/3) of the width of the key. The question is, will it help? Not all saws respond to timing advance and without mods to get more fuel into and out of the cylinder, I have my doubts as to whether or not it will help. My guess is it won't help. But the beauty of advancing the timing is that it can be easily undone.

Good, luck. The (fixed) timing on the 1123 series is already pretty far forward. It may start eating recoil parts with much more advance. As Brad said, only one way to find out! Lots of those flywheels around with no key at all, thanks to folks impacting the clutch off.
