I will take 1 mm of the base and raise the exhaust port and transfers... The difference is very small.... The piston crosspin is a perfekt fit...

Got the piston in place... I need to make a llittle more space, it's a tite fit...
But the stroke on the 044 and the 262 must be about the same... It seem to work out well2013-11-09 17.02.36.jpg

The 044 has a 36mm stroke, while the 262xp has a 34mm stroke. When you put an 044 top end on a 262 crank, it is the crank that dictate the resulting stroke. This means the top end will no longer be 70.7 cc, but around 67cc.

The porting will of course be totally off.....

But why go thru the work of adapting these parts?
There was a thread earlier where a member put a larger cc P/C from a Stihl on a older Craftsman saw to build a sleeper saw.
But the P/C you are adapting is right around the same size,so there will be little change in overall power.Plus it will be an obvious frankinsaw.
Not sure if the pic's are of the saw you will be trying to get running,but if they are a little more cleaning before you removed the P/C will give you a better chance of getting the saw to run and keep running without failure.
Anyhow that's my .05 cents.Continue on and have fun.

I believe it would be much easier to use a top end that share the 34mm stroke with the crank - but I like the idea of using a HD-12 carb of the 372xp on a 262xp. If it is possible to fit it, it would mean a gain with the original 262xp top end, and whatever you could fit.
