The ms391 is worth your money and effort if all your gona have in it is 300$. My dad has one with a 24 inch bar, he cuts 4 cords a year for his shop. Its heavier and slower than a pro model 60cc saw but it works.
Ms 390 is a good saw. My dad has a ms391 that has been a real stinker. Hard starting, not impressive power, coil went bad when saw was less than a year old. The older versions of this model(039 and ms390) will cut circles around the 391 .
Ya corey a 36 inch bar needs a big tree to cut cookies out of. Thats a clean looking 056 that you have, most 056 here in pnw got rode pretty hard back in the day as pro faller saws. I had one about 6 years ago i loved the torque and the sound but too heavy for a firewood saw.
Keep the 272 if its in nice cond, good comp etc. Its a better saw to start with and still tons of parts available for it. I just bought a 266se last year and really like it.
I also had
I had a 391 also the coil died before the saw was a year old. No power and kinda heavy. 046 is a great saw, but hard to find one that hasnt been ran hard.
Yes if you have
Yes if your dads saw collection inludes new old stock 044 and 066 model saws they are worth good money. A few othet models (034 and 036) will sell quick also. If theres big dog saws like 084 ya same ,
Ya dozers are a little bit destructive sometimes, the advice on the echo 620 is great those are nice saws. You might also like a husqvarna 550 xp 18 inch bar i have one and love it.
If making some tracks is not an issue you should look into renting a small dozer for a day. Get one with an enclosed cab for comfort and saftey. Unless you want to selective cut this one acre, a dozer is way less work than a saw for all those tiny trees.
056 ha
A 056 can be a pain. Ignition problems, heavy and vibrate alot. I believe the magnum model is like 96 cc one of those running good is a wood hog, but so is alot of more modern saws.the pm800 is a great old saw way more reliable imo.
150 to 175 is a good price for one that is in good shape. Those go on cl for 250 ish all day long where i live. No its not a sought after performance saw, but if you keep the chain sharp and do a little maint now and then it will feed your stove for a long time.
You c
You could try an add on eastern or craigslist, i know for a fact that thete is always trucks hauling from central idaho to the mills in lagrande, pilot rock and john day. Someone with a self loader mite make you a deal as caldwell is much shorter trip than back to the towns i mentioned...
I got one and love it. Easiest starting saw ive ever owned. Running a 24 inch bar in softwoods it keeps rite up with my 2013 372xt, mods? Im not an expert but i believe a 272 top end will bolt rite on. Its tough to beat an old 200 series husky for being a great easy to work on saw.
Ya i got a 3400 too., no air filter and about 80pounds comp. Only got 2 runners so thats not enough. Dad has a 056 thats in pretty nice shape of course it needs the ignition fixed, but so far cad has not made me wana go head first into that. Im gona pull the trigger on buying a 262 or 550xp this...
Folks where i live wont burn it, i didnt think about the carving aspect it mite work very well for that. The custom wood work guys here want juniper, its gorgeous when done rite but lots of labor
