Bought my first Husky

Picked up a Husqavarna 261 yesterday first husky I have ever owned I think this is considered a landowner saw. Anyway I am not really impressed with it does not seem to do as good as my 036 and weighs noticeably more hopefully a mm will help it out allot. I will try to get pics. in a day or two

The 261 is a real choked down 262. The 262 is a pretty impressive saw imo. There are a few AS threads on converting a 261 to a 262. I believe the clutch, muffler, and piston need to be changed to do the conversion.

uuh don't know about that I think I lost them for just a little bit was looking for something bigger when I ran across this. I probably gave way too much

There's plenty of power locked up in both the 036 & the 261. It just needs to be set free.

If you can get it to run like a 262, you'll be very happy!

I bet my old 346 can take it.

If I have to spend much money on it to get it to run like a 262 I might just trade it in on a 346

Meh,,just get an aftermarket 262 piston,take out the base gasket,(check squish) ,widen in and out a tad and a mild muff mod and cut like hell with it !!
heres a 261 i did just that to.yeh,that IS one heck of a chunk of oak too !! i had to cut the back side from the top first as the wood was thicker than the 20in bar.

you are right about the power- 4.5 vs 3.9
spec'd weight of a 036 is 12.5- both of my 262's weigh right at 13lbs on good scales----they are probably very close in weight.....pop a 262 piston in and mod the muff....the clutch swap completes the conversion (i believe) but i would just run the 2 shoe until it wore out.

You can usually pick up nice 261's for $100 all day long so you shouldn't have too much money after you do the conversion .

That's what I was afraid of I give the Guy $150 he was asking $175 it is in good condition. I quess I should of done my homework before I bought it, not after

we must have posted at the same time..
would a 346 throw chips like that with a 20in bar buried in oak ??
btw,the clutch didnt show any problems after running it hard a few tanks..

roncoinc, that saw is cookin for wood that size!

so basically what makes the 262 a xp is the flat top piston and 3 shoe clutch

Thats about it..
dont worry about the clutch.
i think i got the piston kit for like $25 delivered.
if the saw is in nice shape you can end up with a heck of a nice cutting saw.
i got $250 for the one in the video.

and a different muff.

No i was just joking on the $100. If it is in nice shape you didn't do too bad at all I don't think. If you spend about $35 for a meteor piston, muffler mod it, and find a 3 shoe clutch you probably won't have much over $200 into it. $200 isn't bad at all for a very formidable 60cc saw.
