Okay how many are ready for 2009/2010?
I am not as I have had bad weather, I guess most of you too? I have only cut 3/4 of a cord for next year. I have more than enough to get me through this winter but was hopping to be ahead of the game for next.
I have two spots that are loaded with tree's and yesterday's 60 mph winds should have brought down a few more.:) The Chinooks have turned the trails to solid ice here so I have not taken the trailer with me,as it is a pain in the butt on dead end roads and trails.
I just split my 3/4 cord as it is a nice day +3c all of it Pine as I don't have much choice! This wood has been down for two years and after six months of seasoning will be bone dry, It's just that I need another 5 cords!

yeah im almost there i got three cords of oak and ash its going to be perfectly seasoned. just need one more cord of a mix. Then im going to be ready

My wood is ready to split

I do. Brought in 13 cords last year, all in rounds, that a friend of mine and I will split and divide up this spring. That gives it a whole summer to season dry as a bone.

Meanwhile, I'll collect more green rounds for 2010-2011 as the spring storms once again blow down the trees. It's rare that they do not. I learned this trick from Zodiac45.

Stop the bragging you fools......now. :jawdrop: I'm working on it. Lay off. :censored:

Well I think we are OK. We cut last fall before it got bad (and my help was here).

Another stack like this in the other end of the shed, Im thinking 4 cord or better at each end. 4-5 cord laying in the woods in logs and 2 cord in rounds

I've been slow here as well.

So far I have about 1.5 cord of jack pine and 0.5 cord of birch.

I hope to head out this weekend and get 4 cords of jack pine in log length (8' in truck and 16' on trailer) and another truck load of birch. I am in the same boat as you are (dead end road) for birch so it's just the truck on those trips.

Everyone has somewhere to go this weekend so it will just be Bones and I (Bones is my BLM). Lot's of spare time this weekend!

Right now I am looking pretty good in the wood department. I am on track to use my usual 5 to 6 cord this winter as things stand now. I have 17 cord stacked and under cover beside the house, 7 of which are dry now, and the rest were cut last October so will be dry for next winter's heating season. I also have 3 cord blocked up in the woodlot and 5 more on the landing in log length. I have been cutting on the woodlot since Jan 1st, and hope to continue right through until Spring. Right now we have 16" of snow on the ground and as I write this we are getting another beauty of a storm. Supposed to get an additional 8" to 14" according to the forecast so wallowing in that is not going to be fun, but if it gets to bad I'll just knock the trees down, block them where they fall, and pick up the blocks in the Spring with my 4-wheeler and cart. This will be my first full year selling wood so I'm shooting for at least 30 cord on the ground and ready to be split by mid April. Might be a little optimistic with the snow that's piling up but we'll just have to wait and see.

Grandpa always told me "When I die, burn the woodpile, the next SOB can cut his own da&# wood!).

Actually, I've got a 3 cords split and stacked for next year, If winter ends on time this year!

It doesn't look like we will have winter here, only burned 1 cord so far. If that's the case then I'm way ahead of the game and am probably cutting for the year after next. Who knows though, we can have an early and long winter next year and go through two years worth of wood easily. Isn't that what the rest of North America is going through right now?
Dok

I've got about 3 cords split and in the shed for next yaer. Was going at it hard until mother nature drops the hammer on us last night. Have a lot of red oak tops to clean up. No fun cutting in 10" of snow. Did get a little lucky back in November, tree crew was clearing power right-a-way and I picked up 5 16' trailer loads and a few pick ups. Some is long, but it's in the barn lot ready to work up when fit. Good luck to all. Hope we get a break in the weather soon.

But all your tree's might burn down if the weather stay's so warm in ca? I have a aunt that lives in ca and she is worried about the fires that might come.

20 cord split/stacked on pallets under a tin roof.
5 cord split/stacked on pallets in the open.
7 cord in rounds under snow
16 cord in logs

We are on track to use 5-6 cord this winter....maybe 7.

So if we don't sell any more, then we are good for 7 more years. Provided I get off my butt and get splitting now.

Side note: I've been averaging a face per day, three times per week, all that work has paid off, lost 17# in the last four weeks of working the splitter and stacking.

Show off! :) Just joking it is a great feeling to be ahead on wood.
I have wood pile envy now!

I have about 4 cords cut and split, but mostly branch wood, dry and stacked but under snow. About 3 cords of hardwood in logs. About 13 cords of pine in logs. Another 4 cords of pine in slabs. A bunch of chunks and junk that add up to another couple cords. None of which is clean and dry right now, and I'm down to about half a cord in my wood shed.

And we just got another 6" of snow and then it's been sleet and rain since noon.

been at it a few days

I got snowed out of work today, and dropped some Ash snags in the side 40. Split up the rounds and suprisingly the wood seems ready to burn as it must have been down for over a year or so. To answer your question: I've got next years wood cut and am and splitting more just to get ahead on drying it out a bit.

We ran out of firewood for the house near the end of last winter, and had to forage our own property for dead limbwood, buckthorn, and other pita wood. So 2008 was a year to get prepared, caught up, and stocked up....just in case. I still feel like we are short or low, so I've been in " make hay while the sun shines" mode.
