Well to get back on topic, my 5100 has been nothing but trouble. I've had several different people including myself try an tune this thing to no avail, and yes it has the carb boot sealing ring. I also had the tank vent filter fall off of the saw while I was using it. Yup the filter is junk, as it lets in so much dust I don't see how any saw could last very long with that much dust getting past the filter.

Now I'm a big fan of the 7900 and I think it's a very good saw, and I've little to no trouble with the 7900's that I've had, one leaky oiler and that's it.

The only Dolmar I have that could remotely qualify for an endurance example would be my 9010. While I've not had any problems at all with the others I honestly don't have enough hours on any of them to make an assessment on longevity. However, the 9010 is getting up there and it consistently pulls a 28" bar in big oak. I've never had problem and it has typically gotten better over time. The getting better part has tapered off but, it's not getting worse for sure. Now that I've made this statement it will most likely become a boat anchor in short order.

I'll check in with my experiences....Have 2 7900's, 2 5100's.

One 7900 is 4 yrs old, woods modded.... it is a bit hard to start, warm as well...could be due to the builder not doing something quite right. Saw has a few niggling issues...problems with starter-poor design, etc....filter issue solved with now cover.....it now stays clean and being so small is a non issue.

5100--filter stays quite clean, works well......does have minor starting issues---have had it for over 2 years, modded by Ed Heard, a very strong, solid saw.

The two stockers have way less hours, but both work well. Strongest saws in their class, stock or ported.

It only takes a few minutes to clean a filter in the evening. I'll bet I spend 15 minutes every evening cleaning all my filters.

Andy, I wish I had a few more customers like you. I've probably only got a handful that clean their filters, and most of that is occasional at best.

My 5100 is on its 3rd season of firewood....6-7 cords a season and still running very strong!

And when you change them, it's a good time to rinse out and clean the fuel tank.

BTW, new Huskys and Jonnys have a two way fuel tank vent. No more blowing out the fuel tank with the air hose, as it will damage the vent.

How often are you supposed to change the fuel filters? I change them once a year on the saws that get used a lot. Tanks get rinsed then too, or if I think I got some crud in there.

:hmm3grin2orange: All of my Dolmars are antiques (relatively speaking) and have never failed too get the job done.

PS: air filter maintainance is just common sense. I clean them off with a soft paintbrush after every couple of hours in dusty conditions but at least at the end of the day.

I never do any maintenance to my saws, I don't know how to do any of that fancy stuff.:monkey:

What are you thinking, I'm a long time member of AS and I visit the chainsaw forum almost daily and I have 7, soon to be 8 chainsaws, do you really think I don't take care of my saws? + I have a mild case of OCD, why do you think my saws always look so good in my pics. I give all my ope a once over after each use, and i spray out the fuel tanks with brake cleaner if I'm going to put it up for more than a day or two, and I change the fuel filters regularly.

You know what, you try and save a couple bucks by using what is suposedly a good saw and you end up buying twice, I grew up around this sh%t and can tell you that you buy once and take care of it. Maybe if I hadn't had a piston seize on a saw that's only a few months old I wouldn't be pi$$ed but I somehow am. I have two guys working for my family business using these saws who have mouths to feed let a lone the three I have staring at me at my supper table. The best the local dealer can do because Dolmar hasn't been around my area long enough to give a crap is order parts to get it back in service. Oh and for the carb adjustment if you look back at previous posts they have issues with the 5100 my carbs are tuned, tached and perfect, maybe the 7900 is a great saw but I can tell you I will never find out! Get My panties out of a bunch!

Here we go but stone cold facts!
Anyone who thinks dolmar is the second coming of the folks in orange let me tell you, for the last 5 months I have done nothing but clean air filters/ CUTTIN Scott, your air filter sucks. We put in a couple of dolmars amongst many stihl's and Husquvarnas and exactly what the guys who tried this locally told me happened,dolmar is like a piece of look-a-like stainless steel, looks good but doesn't last. After a few short months of running 2 5100's for limbing on ultra the saw has no compreesion, has never idled right and sucks wasp nests up/ hint hint. We gave these saws a chance in an ohio summer and they burnt up. There is a reason folks in my part use saws that are orange and not red. Don't take this offensive if you sell them or occasionally use them, they are fast but blow their wad early! Oh and don't try to tell me I didn't mix the gas wrong or done some other elementary thing wrong.

You have other saws, so quit pissing and moaning about mouths to feed. I doubt these 2 saws ruined your life and business, and if they did there is something wrong besides the saws. #### happens, get over it.

Take them back to your dealer or send them to us if you want. We'll do the warranty work if needed. All I need are the saws & original invoices from the dealer.
