Maybe. But if I needed a good timber faller I don't think I'd much care if he could spell or not. You can spell but I doubt very much if I'd pick you over Tramp Bushler for a logging job. Good spelling doesn't get the wood on the ground.

There's a world of difference between cutting down a tree and fallin+ buckin a forest . Half decent math skills are much more necessary than spelling and grammer .

A bushler gets paid by how much he cuts .
I don't know the current rates so I'll go with the rate of my last bushlin job on POW . Scribner scale . 5.50 $ a thousand .
Snags were stump diameter at 24' root cuts and riggin cuts were 12' if I remember right .
A standard day was 6 1/2 hours on the saw . .
Thats 390 minutes .
If a guy lived frugally he could make it on 250$ a day .
So you take 2 hours and 20 minutes out of 6 1/2 hours gives you 4 hr 10 minutes .
Your gonna have t change a chain at least once a day . . Your going to fuel your saw up 7- 10 times . Tho some guys don't and don't need to I have always found a lunch break makes me money .

Beating wedges is not cutting . Having to split the face on a larger tree isn't putting it on the ground. Most of the time it means that you missed your cuts .
Gettin hung up is definatly NOT makin money .
Sometimes you have to beat wedges to keep your lay and leade or so you don't break the tree all to match sticks

The sharpest and fastest cutting that your saw can be the more money you can potentially make . . But there is Pqaa balance that needs to be kept . Say you have your power head modified so its producing more speed or power . Thats great , unless it caused the tank run time to deminish by 25-50% . I' ve been very interested in the modded saws where the builder timed the fuel consumption ! ! If a saws preformance can be increased without it adding to the # of fuel ups per day . That is an improvement worth paying for .

So the 1 variable that every cutter . Regardless of where the are has total control over . Without taking even the muffler off his saw is the chain .
A truly sharp chain .
A sharp , well jointed chain is ime 100% more important than a modified engine .
All the powerhead does is make the chain work . If the chain isn't good the powerhead can't make up the difference .
Madsen's sells Silvey Swing Arm grinders for less than 800 $ . Thats a good grinder that will last a lond time .

Hotsaw does some good vids . Skadill , Tartar kid . Theirs are almost always fun .
The one Smash That (sp) shows some real nice timber goin over . But imo they should have added the facing up .
There are a bunch of other very good ones . But many more that are @#$%&-+() . Yuk .

Yeah buddy. I just mainly "play" with ported saws, but I can surely attest to a sharp chain bein el numero uno. Especially a good full chisel square! Man, those make a stock saw feel ported when filed right. And yes, a swing arm and what I would like an SDM4 can really sharpen a chain. I have a very early model (71 i believe) Silvey 600 and really like it. And again just like you said will last a long time. This one is prolly 40 years old and works perfect.
