Neighbor asked if I would look at his saw

Last spring, the wife's niece (cousin to the other dimwits) called for me to look at their lawn mower. Said she couldn't get it started. She came to drop if off and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was covered in pine needles and even had a few pine cones on it. I looked at her and said, "Couldn't even clean it off? What's with all the pine needles?" Her response was "That's from where we keep it under a pine tree." I asked, No cover? She said "No, don't need it. It's under the tree." I didn't even take it out of her vehicle. I tried the pull start and the piston was stuck solid. The rings had probably rusted to the cylinder. In addition to that, the mower deck looked like it was being held together with paint. Lots of rust perforation. I told her to take it to the scrap yard because it's shot. She asked what was wrong with it. I told her that she needs to find a better tree because the one she's using leaks. Apparently she had been storing the mower under the tree for years??? Unbelievable!

Our local legend has it that the really smokin' hot Masters degree type psychologist that moved into to town and introduced us all to mini-skirts and go-go boots(this was back in the 60's) once added a quart of blue paint to her Gran Prix which later seized. She was also said to have added water to be brake master cylinder and brake fluid to her windshield washer reservoir. But, she was really hot and that made it all forgivable.;)

My favorite thing is the guy that brings his lawn mower in and says, "It just stopped for no reason." My first question is, "Didja hit any rocks?" The answer is always "NO!". Invariably there'll be a giant sized divot out of the blade and the key will be busted off clean. Nope, no rocks. Musta been some of those really tough dandelions.:hmm3grin2orange:

That kinda stuff always kills me! We always used to wonder why the rocket launcher had a big yellow arrow on it that said "this end toward enemy" ....it's because that actually happened.

In college I worked at Sears in the tools and lawn and garden. A buddy of mine sold their real high end garden tractor to a professor. He came back and said it wouldn't run and proceeded to scream at us. Our "technician" looked at it and couldn't figure out the problem. I looked in the fuel tank and smelled the sweet, sweet aroma of DIESEL! Long story short the guy said "it's a tractor isn't it? Tractors take diesel, I know I was raised on a farm!" He threw enough of a fit that the salesman didn't educate me enough on it that we gave him the floor model and my buddy got written up.

In any of these scenarios always assume you are dealing with the least common denominator! :msp_wink:

If a customer came in screaming like that at any shop of mine, he'd be getting quickly escorted out. Problem is these #######s have learned that if they yell loud enough, they often get what they want. That's not good for anyone.

You are absolutely right! All Sears will do is pass the cost on to the rest of us in the form of higher prices. Not to mention that you have now taught that jerk an important lesson, throw a big enough fit for any reason you are not satisfied and you will get your way....:chainsaw::chainsaw::chainsaw::chainsaw::chainsaw:

Thanks for reminding me, my neighbor keeps his mower under a bush and then it gradually stops running. He then gives it to me and voila, I have another running lawnmower. I noticed he had another one under the bush, I need to check with him and see if it s not running.
