Here's a few pics of one of my boys tearin down a 039 project fer me.
The pics were takein by my youngest daughter(14) while we was workin in the shop.

After that he found a ryobi of a customers that I haven't really wanted to deal with. He checked for spark, added fresh fuel & had it runnin in 15min. :msp_thumbup:

You can tell from those pics he's had his hands right in there. That's how Digger's hands looked, and his shirt, and his pants where he wiped his hands, part of his face... His Mom never said a thing. Just shot some Spray N Wash on 'em when he came in and put 'em in the wash. She was proud of him, too.

My son was 8 when he totally rebuilt an 038 mag, but I have since sold it. I ended up getting him a brand NOS MS380 made in Brazil.

You SOLD an 038 Mag?!?!?

Im thinking ya gunna have to change diggers nick name, good stuff keep him interested.:smile2:

Sawdust? Chopper? Any ideas? I'm partial to Digger. He's had that for 5 or 6 years now.

Denim shop aprons  Keeps the shirts and pants cleaner! And best for us that may be a little rounder :) When you drag yer belly on something, just gets the apron dirty.

WOW!! 35 lbs?!?!? He's gonna be grinnin' from ear to ear! There hasn't been a notice yet. Knowing our mailman he'll probably just bring it by and put it on the front porch. One of the great things about living here is that I know most everyone and we all try to help each other out. Our mailman is about like a neighbor, he'd stop to help out if he saw the wife and kids broke down on the side of the road or with about anything else. Good people and good place for the most part.

35 lbs!! Yikes! He's gonna be tough to live with for a while!

Same here. There are still some good places to live in... As for my story, even though my dad can barely clean a air filter, my brother that is 16 years younger, always watched and helped me fix stuff. He now is a motorbike mechanic...

Big box arrived today

I had to go to town this morning and when I got back our rural mail carrier had put our normal mail in our box, then drove up all the way up our steep, narrow little driveway to the house and set a big box on the front porch. I brought it inside and waited for everyone to gather up before supper.

There was excitement all around as Digger opened the box and saw not one, not two, but THREE Poulan XXV saws!!! There were bars and chains to boot!!

His sister, Chaney, had talked a shop owner out of a leaf blower (and several other items) the day before.

She wanted to be in the next picture. I may have created a monster here. The two of them are already talking about trading and selling and buying. I'm afraid the infection will spread!!

Chainsaw Mike 1 didn't just deliver - he went over the top!! Digger couldn't wait to get out to the shop and start working on the saws. Here's the very best part....

I asked Digger if he thought he would help me teach his sister Chaney and younger brother (Max) how to work on saws, too. He said "Sure, but I'm thinking about how this is so much fun I'd like to teach my son about it one day."

Life is great on our little farm. Thank you Chainsaw Mike 1.

I tried to rep Chainsaw Mike 1 but it said I have to spread some around. If anybody hasn't repped him for this already, please do so for me (and Digger). He has really brought some sunshine to our little corner of the world.

By the way, Digger checked two of the saws tonight. Both had good cylinders and pistons, both had spark. Mike didn't send junk pieces, my guess is he cherry picked a few so Digger would have to do more than rebuild a carb, but nothing too major. Just the right next step. Very well done.

Thanks again!!

Chainsaw mike has been repped. Nice people on this site. This is a cool thread, sounds like digger has his hands full now. Keep up the good work!

It was the least I could do. Also it gave me a excuse to clean the shop! We all know how they can get when you are looking for stuff! Like I said, just post some pics of the progress! Diggers Dad, it looks like you are gonna have some horse trading going on at your house! HAPPY CUTTING, BIG MIKE! And Marry Christmas!

Repped him. The Poulan XXV was my first chainsaw and I still love it. Hope he gets one running. With such a great start, he will be the one teaching you mechanics in a few year. Kids learn fast at that age!

I've noticed they learn quickly and see things with fresh eyes. Now if I could just get one of them interested in being a dentist or doctor, THAT would be handy. So far, two or my four children need braces. $$$$$$$$$$

good on you mike. here's my little man with his little homie. chains off for safty for now , will let him do some cutting withit soon.View attachment 210342

I've seen a smile just like that around here. Yours looks like he was walking without touching the ground there. I wish I could make all of their days as happy as that.

Mike has been duly repped.

I have to agree, you don't want to frustrate Digger early in the game, let the challenges matches his growing skills.

Well, with the saws I sent, he should have one of them up and running by the weekend!

And by the way digger, the owner before me put all the diffrent screws in it! You might need your dads help getting some of them out. So get your self some good penatrating oil (justice bros, Pb blaster, LPS) If I find any more parts for these saws I will send them your way. And most important, have a little fun with them! HAPPY CUTTING, BIG MIKE

Well, whoever owned one of 'em was a fair-sized man!! Ole Digger couldn't get a screw out of the little AV model so I got a hold of it. Hoochie Mama! Finally got it loose by getting it wedged in a corner of the workbench and a couple of shots of PB Blaster. We shot a little PB on several key points after that.

That PB is so good if you put enough on it and wait.............................the screw will back itself out 4 or 5 turns!!

It's poulans and homelites now. In a few years it will be stihls and huskys. Then hes going to be saving his money up for a new stihl. I think I'm the second youngest member with cad. I just bought a new stihl MS 460 a month after I turned 15. He will have cad as bad if not worse than me in a few years. I started running saws at 12 so he might have cad worse than me. It's good to see that there are actully kids in my generation that can work on stuff and enjoy working on and running saws and other equipment.

Good choice on the 460! But, a new one? I've been collecting and working on saws since I was about 10 and have only bought 1 brand-new saw! My CAD is worse than most (30+ runners and just as many non) so, new saws are a little boring to me. But to each there own! So, get your self some old projects, and post some pics of your new saw. HAPPY CUTTING, BIG MIKE!
