I lost my wood cutting buddy today

What a tough and at the same time great thread. Our pets do fill a very unique spot in our lives. Last year in a 9 month period I lost my cat, my dad and our golden retriever. I was never a cat person until I dug a tiny kitten out of the fender of my truck. I named him Dodge. He grew to...

    Plastic repair on 7900

Howdy All, I snapped the bolt for my rear a/v mount on my 7900. I tried to pull it with an extractor and one thing led to another, so I now have a 3/8 hole where the bolt used to be. I am thinking about using an epoxy to fill the hole, then drill it and install a new bolt. But, there...

    Big Jack up and running

My son was about 5 when my parents stopped burning wood. He was there to "help" a buddy of mine install the new furnace. Dad had moved all the wood by the stairs to take outside and make room for the furnace. While my buddy was setting up my son carried all the wood back to where it was before...

Whats the strangest thing you have ever cut/seen cut with a chainsaw?

A friend borrowed my brothers 625II, with a new bar and 2 new chains. He cut roots around 2 big stumps with the first chain. The second chain was used to cut a 50 foot trench to run phone line to his garage, across 20 feet of gravel driveway. Couldn't understand why my brother was so upset...

    how to season wood quickly?

My woodburner is in my garage which is 4 feet from my house, so I have a bit of room to work with. I have a woodbox sheeted with corrugated metal with a tarp on the front. I have an 8in line run from the top of the plenum on the stove to the side of the box. When it gets too warm in the house I...

    Tomato plants got the blight.

I think the suggestion for bagging the plants relates to home gardens. Commercial growers will use the appropriate chemicals to treat the plants. I have worked farm markets for years and every week I have someone asking about something happening to their plants or a new bug. So their suggestion...

Anyone ever use TSC brand bar oil?

I bought oil from TSC last year when I ran out of husky. Cutting in 50 degree temps it had lumps floating in it. The bottom quart was sludge. 3 Gals all had the same issue. It was in the milk jug type container, not like the husky jug. Now I only use husky. Roger

    Dolmar 7900 owners?

I run a 24 in bar, 50 gauge 3/8 full chisel. It's long enough I can cut standing up and short enough to keep my retarded self out of the huge stuff.

How to clean a dolmar air filter?

I use simple green mixed with water for a short soak. When I use compressed air I blow from the inside out. WARNING if you soak it in the sink, take it out before the wife get home. Just sayin' Roger

    home anodizing

I worked in a commercial shop in my younger days. The basic premise is solid. There are lots of variables like solution concentration, temperature, aluminum formula and distance to ground, but I think it would work ok. As far as AL/MAG, I just do not know. Have you looked at the powder coat...

Does anyone actually LIKE grinding chains??

When I was a youngster a machinist showed me how to hand file the chains. I cut for him and my family for years. I would hand file until I figured the angle were out of whack, then take the chain to the saw shop. Seemed to cut ok for me. For the last few years it has gotten more difficult to...

    best bar length for 7900

I run a 24in 7 pin. I rarely get into anything that I would need a longer bar for. The main reason I went with a 24in is I can cut wood on the ground and not bend over. I am 5ft8, so if you are taller go longer. That was my reason for picking this length. Too old to stoop down to cut for long.

    Bought a Fiskars splitter

I just got one a few days ago myself. I had a similar one that I got at Home Depot. It worked pretty well, but the fiskars is a much better steel. I really like it so far. Now to create a new must have. Estwing Sure Split. It has flares towards the top that really force the wood apart when it...

I dont know how you guys up north do it....

I will take the cold over heat any day. I lived in Tn for 2 years. i moved there in July 89. I swear it was over 100 everyday for 5 weeks straight. At night I stood under the shower for 10 minutes before a drop of water hit the tub! Body just sucked it up. I can work in the cold as long as my...

    Saw for Hire

Speaking for myself, I recognize that dull does not make it on TV. However I think there is a difference between a miscalculation or tough situation and inept stupidity.

    bar/chain oil $$$

I used the Tractor Supply stuff for quite awhile. But the last few gallons sucked. Last summer I bit the bullet and bought husqvarna bar oil at 12.50 gal. Much better oil. I happened to stop at a Jred/Husky dealer in a small town we do a farm market at and he had husky bar oil for 7.00 a gal. I...
