Just wondering how many members will consider different brands of saws when making a buying decision. When I was young dumb and full of cum I had to have a specific brand, whatever I thought was best at the time, would not even consider another maker. I see a lot of brand loyalty in the posts here.

For years I was a diehard Stihl owner, did not even consider anything else. When I became disenchanted with Stihl for several reasons I looked at Dolmar/Makita and found I am very happy with them. I just recently bought a new top handle saw and looked at all the brands and decided on a Jonsered.

So who here on the forum looks at all the options available and would openly admit they would buy a product other than their favorite manufacturer?

You did well on that little Jonsered! :)

I consider Husky, Jonsered, Stihl and Dolmar - even though Dolmar is hard to get here.
If more brands had saws worth considering, I would have included them as well.

I would consider any saw that was well made if the price was right. Of course I have always been a "root for the underdog" type of guy. I am currently running a couple Stihls, a Husky, Shindaiwa, Solo, and even a couple of Poulan 330s. I wish I would have bought one of the $100 Ryobi/redmax saws when they were all over the place.

A home depot 6401 is on my short list too.

No problem looking at other brands, kinda settled in on what works the best for me now. The supposed #1 had its chance but it didnt work out. The brands I have work just fine so no reason to switch until necessary. REJ2

I'll look at almost any brand as long as it's of good quality. I'm partial to Jonsered as they have shown to be well worth my time. The only saw that I've bought new is an Echo 440 which has proven to be an excellent saw for what it is intended for. I'm more brand loyal to my choice in automobiles, BUICK LeSABRE, and Chevrolet pickups.

I worked for a local tree co. and they had all Stihls. I saw what they went through and the abuse that we put them through. I also have a friend that has a little temper and when his 034 doesn't run right it usually gets thrown, I have seen it fly 30ft into the corn field and never broke anything. For what it's worth, they aren't the lightest or the fastest but they do take a beating and keep on going. Kind of like a Timex watch " takes a licken and keeps on ticken" Accept for the vintage saws I will only buy Stihl. That is my $.02...

I'm another homeowner and fairly new to chain saws.
About 15 years ago, I bought a little 33 cc Homelite at Sams' Club because it was cheap. Firewood was also cheap, delivered cut and split so All I needed a saw for was the occasional small job on the honey do list. Still, that saw was a misery. It always started and ran but it was weak and the chain was always falling off.
During the recent fuel crisis, the price of firewood more than doubled and decided to harvest our firewood from our own property.
I wanted a decent saw and started asking around. We're talking only 3-4 cords/yr of hardwood up to about 14".
My stepfather works at a small engine repair shop and he recommended Husqvarna. So did his close friend, who has worked in the woods his whole life for the paper companies. I found this board and read and read and read.
To make a long story shirt, I have a Husky 345 and a Husky 350.
When all is said and done, for what I paid for the two saws (bought a year and a half apart) I could have bought a new 346xp N.E. Live and learn..
That being said, these two saws work great for me and having two saws does have its' advantages.

I'll buy whatever looks fun to use. Really don't care what color or sticker is on it.

I like a lot of different brands. I've had stihl, huskys, dolmar, homelite xl 12s, used older poulans, jonsered 910. I like the huskys best. I've sold all the stihls and the only way I buy them now is if it's a real good deal or buying it for someone else and sending it to them. I think stihl is like john deere in a lot of ways. It is good stuff but I think there is better options for the money.

I look at all brands. But will not buy from the big box stores!
Will stick with a good independent dealer.

The 346xp was my first Husky and it's kind of hard to follow that act

The only loyalty I have towards saws is they must be a pro grade saw. Some of the homeowner versions of the big names arent any better built than HD homelites and they cost more.

I plan on owning a couple Huskys and at least a 7900 Dolly.

But Stihl is the brand I've always used. Not because I like the taste of the Kool-Aid, but because the first saw I ever used was Stihl and from then till now they have always ran for me with no problems.

Everyone likes what they like. Just seems Stihl owners catch for flack for sticking to thier brand. I guess it's easier to hate on the best.:hmm3grin2orange:
