I'd say its probably not gonna be recovered. It was probably sold, pawned or such as soon as it was snatched. :msp_sad:

Though it is good that he got the license plate, least maybe they will be caught.

Tell him to not to jump on the car next time though!!! :msp_w00t:

yep, probably should have jumped in the car....... that way he'd have known where the hell his saw was taken to.:jester:

Bout 20 years back (i was in better shape then)
Chased a - "too drunk and stupid to realize that he's his own worst enemy"
Sort of character, out of my truck as he was trying to hot wire it.
Long story short, caught up with him a couple hundred yards up the street.

On the court date , My case was further down the list,
So I sat and watched .....
...how the public defender say one thing BUT use conflicting gestures
and convoluted~semi contradictory speech to tangle up the plaintiffs/victims.

Wold say something to describe the thiefs clothing
i.e. saying long sleevs, but be pointing to his elbow.
that kind of little stuff would tangle people enough to
make them look uncertain, thus unreliable witness (or something)
and get a walk free for several "petty larcenists".

Gave me a chance to pick up on his methods and I actually got
awarded a bit of restitution for the truck damages
......and a nasty look from that S.O.B, public defender.

having the tag and some good identification
is about the best your Dad can do in this case.
if possible, Try not to be the first case up
and just watch how the pub defender does his job
and try planing your thoughts ,so as not to get tripped up by his Bull####

Have Dad repeat the story for you and family, till he's got it drilled strait
and if someone asks a "sideways" question he can catch it it and
say "no you're not correct" what I said it was like this....

Gotta be able to spin it back around on them
like they will try to do to you.
Assertive but in control, not angry looking , in front the Judge.

=
On a Different time, I wasn't home and my shop got hit ,
wasn't much to work with that time and it ended up costing me
Far, far more than if the truck had been successfully stolen that night.

My troubles with the Matco man and receipts would need it's own thread though.

Check the local Pawn shops.

We found my buddys drill after his work van was stolen.

I am hopeful it will turn up.

or the crackhead fires it up and and suffers a horrable kickback accident to the face.

I wouldnt look for it on Craigslist. One- the crack head probably pawned his computer so no access to CL. And two, you have to give personal info and arrange a meet on CL- which opens up an opportunity to expose yourself and get your ass caught or stomped. That saw is probably headed to a Pawn Shop for a quick flip for cash.

I'd say your perspective is probably right. The pawn shops are a prime place these guys unload these days. We had two lawn mowers a blower and weedeater stolen this year - without serial numbers you can't do much. (Do any of you guys copy serial numbers off your blower? mower? etc). Most of the time this stuff will be sold for the price of a crack rock. Hope you do catch the guy though - having the tag number is a plus plus...

In NC it is illegal to shoot someone for stealing your property. This isnt Texas. Although if it would. I guarantee I wouldnt have to lock my doors at night  Some low down SOB stole a car from a man with cancer last week. Only car him and his wife have.. I say use the tall tree in town to set examples.

Will keep a eye on CL just in case.

Yeah I read about that car theft -- just makes you wish you could have been a fly on the wall in a case like that. The "tall tree" tactic is OK in my book, and I believe if we
kept fast by it that many more would reconsider. I'm watching CL myself - once again, sorry Wiggs - hope they catch the perp.

Durham is a dangerous place. They didn't build that big fence around Duke University for nothing.

Hope the saw makes it home.

I thought it was legal. Forgot the name of the law but it gives you the right to protect what is yours. If anybody tries to steal anything of mine they got some 00 buck with their name on it.

I Have the SS# of every single saw I own. I've had breakiin's 3 times. Two at one address and one at another. Confronted some guys last week at my neighbors with two truck, one with a trailer. They assured me my neighbor wanted them to haul "some stuff" but they left immediately after I confronted them.

Theres not too many states where that is legal. I'm not sure about NC but I know you can't in Va. Hell, you have to pretty much be in the process of being murdered before you can shoot in Va. :(

I would at least check on the local laws before sending out any 00 buck with names on it. :D

PS: Theives suck.

Castle Doctrine. I have the right to shoot them if they break into my house/shed intending to use unlawful act involving violence. If someone breaks into my house or place of buisiness how am I to know if they have a have a gun or knife? I am not going to take any chances.

I would much rather take a chance in the court system then to watch some idiot kill my family. Or worse, brutally attack or kidnap.

But yeah we have really good castle doctrine laws.

As the old saying goes... "I would rather tried by twelve, than carried by six."

The phrase to remember is "I confronted him and he turned on me. I was afraid he was going to kill me!!!"

That is pretty much a free pass everywhere except the northeast.

Of course the evidence has to match. The theif can't be laying in a running away position with a hole in his back...........................................................unfortunately!

Jeremy, if your FIL doesn't get his saw back, I have an 028Super here that looks like POO but has great internals that I'll donate.
You can have it running great in about 1/2 hour.
