How many of you have next years wood cut?

We ran out of firewood for the house near the end of last winter, and had to forage our own property for dead limbwood, buckthorn, and other pita wood. So 2008 was a year to get prepared, caught up, and stocked up....just in case. I still feel like we are short or low, so I've been in " make hay while the sun shines" mode.

Last year, with the wife making the transition to a stay-at-home in the midst of the heating season, we burnt much more than planned. I thought that we were in good shape but wound up running a bit short and I had to but a 1/2 cord of ash to make it through.

I swore that this would not happen again.

In addition to about 3 cords split and piled outside for 2009-10, I'm projecting a surplus of ~2 cords in spite of the relative harshness of this winter. So I'll have about 5 cords for next year and will only need to forage for 2 cords for next year.

Something tells me that I will manage to gather more than the bare minimum. Especially where I just got permission to clear out a whole pile of red oak tops. Three miles from home, no less.

I'm a little behind. I usually have next years in rounds too split in April, but my firewood partner is gone too firewood heaven (or he's stoking the boilers below) RIP Ralphie and my truck crapped out a few times (It's gonna be RIP in Spring). I guess I have about a cord and a half of hatmatack and white birch out back. I'll be needing too get out there and find me some maple, ash, yellow birch for the other 4-5 I'm gonna need due too a second stove going in this summer. :chainsawguy:

Right on my way to the store. Noticed the "Caution: Log Trucks Entering" signs last week and have been rubbernecking by there everytime I drive by. The crew was there yesterday so I popped in. I 'spect I'll be putting a new edge on my chains and get out there next week.

Timing's good, too. It's easier for me to convince the wife of the value of woodboogerin' at a time of year when the stove's roarin with the good stuff.

Have enough to take me through 2012, still have a lot of tops down the road to get, plenty of seasoned for the next 3 years, 9 loads of hedge from this year, sure love the hedge. We have more places to cut than we can get to right now and have put a few people off till next year, hope the good fourtune hold out.

I have about 8-10 years worth of wood cut, split, and stacked under my various woodsheds. Then another couple years worth cut and split under a big tarp out in the open. Then a lifetime supply still on the hoof just a few steps out my door...

Buying this 30 acres of woodland was like buying a gold mine. I have NEVER had a heating fuel bill since 1976 and that means never.

I thought I had a good start, but its looking like I ill burn about 2 extra cords this winter. We'll see how February and March go, then I will know how much of next year's wood I have cut!:hmm3grin2orange:

With work being sooo slooow I have been selling alot more wood then I wanted to just to get some cash flow. I have been cutting a steady supply of dead standing oak and have been marketing it as just cut firewood. I would be in great shape for next year if I was not selling. Soon time to stop selling and start stockpiling.

Thought at the start of the year I would have loads for this winter, most likely gonna run short mid march.

Anyway off work tommorow and have a few down dead trees washed up on the shore and think after 6 weeks undercover in the wind should be dried out to burn.

Next years is already cut, just not seasoned! which sucks, knowing you have enough wood, but can't burn it!

I processed 10 cord for this year and expected to burn 3-4. I just brought in and burned the last of my fifth cord this week. I thought I was good for 2 years but it looks like I'm only going to carry about 3 cord of cut and split into next season.

The wood service guys called to say they had a load for me but - I'm guessing due to rain - I haven't recieved it yet. That would add about 5 cord to the stacks.

I'm shooting for 20 cord this year provided I can find room around the property to stash it all.

I finished stacking next years wood in the shed back in September. I've already got half of the following years wood cut and split. What is that, 2010-2011? I'll be ready!

I've been set for 09-10 for quite some time now, and am just topping off for 2011-12. I get green hard woods and it gets 2 years of seasoning, now that I have a surplus.
Yesterday I ripped into a block at my pile/source and got a blast of VapoRub, very strong menthol. Wikipedia told me it must have been a Cinnamon Camphor.

Last winter at Christmas we began to heat with wood again after 20+ years and was forced to burn all green Ash which actually wasn't so bad. Have enough cut from last winter to make it till spring. Working on next years now and have about;

1/2 cord White Ash
1/3 cord Hickory
1 3/4 cords Red Oak
1/2 cord Honey Locust

I need more Hickory and hope to cut that this weekend. Not bad for an old man eh! No more high $$$$ propane fill ups is the best.

I still have, even though I got injured in may last year, and unable to cut much - was at least two years ahead.....
