Is the shop lying to me and next steps?

I've always heard outboard oil will burn a chainsaw up. Outboard motors are water cooled and don't need near the quality an air cooled 2 stroke needs.
I agree. I know somebody that locked-up an old Echo 60 with outboard oil. I was able to get it un-stuck, though.

I think the posters that linked that Shindawia - Echo PDF file about engine and piston failures should stand up and take a bow. Very informative. Not only was it a refresher on two stroke engines but a very good read and a definite keeper to store on the computer. I am going to stock up on printer ink and get that file printed in case the computer decides to go south.

I definitely second that statement. Thank you again for that gem. And thank you to everyone that helped in this. This trophy is for you. :numberone:

But they probably figure we're not smart enough to diagnose and fix something our-self. They want you to take it to the "dealer" where some snot nosed 18 year old punk who probably never held a real saw is the 'expert' ;) Lol

Yeah the mechanic I dealt with chastised me for taking the limiter caps off the carb even though they were never there to begin with. He wants to be the only one to make any adjustments.

If I’m not mistaken, Stihl requires them to reinstall the caps before handing it back to the customer.

I found it.

$36.50 and Free Shipping. Cheapest of the Cheap.

That is the exact same cylinder to the letter that the owner of the dealership said was genuine Stihl that he had put on my saw before I bought it from him.
OK. So now what? For a guy that just wants to forgive and forget you sure keep stirring the ****. Are you gonna call the shop out?

What’s the name of the shop so others don’t get burned

I read every post. No where did he say that he couldn't change the sprocket. The attitude some of you guys have for new folks that come in is the reason this place has been on a decline for a while now. Give the guy a break. Who ****ing cares if he doesn't say what shop it was or not. He also said the shop owner is a customer at his place of employment want doesnt want to cause any issues. We don't know the whole story but why does it matter? It is what it is.

It was the immediate shop bashing that threw up a flag for me.

Time to move on.

Time to move forward on what you are going to do with the saw and what you will need to rebuild it. Get a little perspective. Mixing dealer bashing with technical help on decisions is not gonna work.
