questions on making a saw look new

Tire Gel First off, try Meguiar's Tire Gel to restore the color on faded plastic. It worked on my 044 and only cost $7. Wigglesworth posted this tip a while back. Olyeller

    shipping a chainsaw?

Meguiar's Tire Gel works very well--a $7 fix to spruce up faded plastic. It works great on my old 044. I got this tip from Wigglesworth (thanks again, Wigs). Olyeller

    Chainsaw Magazine?

$$$$$$$ I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I was a motorcycle magazine editor for many years and am still currently employed in the word business. Especially right now it's dang tough to make money in the magazine business. In general, there are two ways to make a magazine a...

    Stihl MS 311 opinions

I bought a Stihl MS390 as my first "real" saw and it cut very well. I faced a similar decision back when I considered the 290/310/390/362 options, and I decided the small price difference between the 310 and 390 was like buying a factory hot-rod job for only $50. But the extra $150 to jump up to...

    New Member, New Saw

Welcome to AS, Tim, and congrats on getting your new saw. Your story is much like my own in the early stages, and it sounds like you're already feeling the effects of CAD--Chainsaw Acquisition Disease. But it can be a fun hobby and there is a cure for CAD: More chainsaws! Stay safe. Olyeller

    is there something wrong

Doesn't everybody here do that? I'd be surprised if anyone here on AS denied firing up a saw now and then just to hear it run. I fired up my 064CC and the big Homelight 1050 just yesterday to hear them run. I haven't gotten them into wood yet, so I needed to fire them up and hear them roar...

So I'm curious, what do you guys do for a living?

Not necessarily... If you were a teacher in California, you might have been laid off! Olyeller

    I'm absolutely sick!!!

Oh well... Sorry to hear about the sore throat and fever--that's the negative version of adrenaline letdown! But I understand that deeply inhaling two-stroke exhaust at 50:1 mix will clear up that malady in no time. Or just enjoy a quiet Sunday; you surely have earned it. Olyeller

    I'm absolutely sick!!!

Zzzzzzzzzzz..... I'm just laughing thinking about how Brad is probably snoring up a storm right now following that major-league adrenaline letdown. He's been all wound up planning what to do for how long now? This is gonna be one deep sleep--here's wishing you lots of pleasant dreams about this...

So I'm curious, what do you guys do for a living?

Fascinating reading... What an interesting group we have here on AS. One thing that struck me is how many of you are younger guys--but I don't know why I should be surprised by that. I'm on the other end of things, closing in on the big 6-0 soon. After college I was a teacher, then went to work...

does anyone else have dealer issues?

It's all around us I too have had my share of frustrations about parts not in stock, but that has become more common and will only increase. I'm in the motorcycle business and the hobby end of that too, and dealerships are now stocking fewer and fewer bike parts. Those parts represent cash that...

Let's hear about the fine folks of AS...

What makes the AS clan different? I agree with all the previous comments; so much knowledge and goodwill spread so freely around here on AS. But reading these posts brought up a question in my mind: What is it that makes the AS clan so different? Is it because the chainsaws themselves will...

OK...I need to brag about today's score.......

Whoa! Did you say WHOA! when you first saw them? I know I did just now. Congrats! Olyeller

    394xp score

Plastic on the saw shown looks pretty good, just a bit grimy; the other one is even better? And how did you find two 394s in one week? That's some kinda good scrounging! Keep us posted. Olyeller

    6 cubes

Rep to you--thanks for reviving this thread about big ones. I recently picked up a Homelite Super 1050 and it's in very nice shape. Now I need to run it against my 95cc Dolmar 143 and 99cc 064 BB I recently completed. Looking forward to the Battle of the Titans. But the rain won't stop out this...

Picked up my new 372xpw at Baileys Woodland store and counted their remainig stock...

You're not my father! I'm all for jumping in on the dark side for a 372. But I decided I wanted to stay married more than I wanted that new saw! Olyeller

Picked up my new 372xpw at Baileys Woodland store and counted their remainig stock...

I passed... I happened to be in Woodland on business a few weeks ago and I stopped in the store 3 or 4 times. I kept fondling the 372 and it kept calling my name, but I left it sitting there. I sure did think hard about buying one... Glad you did get yours--enjoy! Olyeller

    Random post 460/361

:agree2: A solid 50cc saw and the 460 are a great pair. That's what AS folks recommended to me when I started my chainsaw journey. And that's great advice; in truth, that pair will get most non-pro woodcutters through half a lifetime or better. But look at my sig line and you can see how...
