where did you learn to work on saws?

I've always been interested in engines, not sure why. I'm by no means an expert but I learned on go-cart engines. I remember bypassing the governer by using a piece of string to pull the governer shaft.. That helped me outrun my buddies go-karts. I eventually threw a rod because of it and...

    Awwwww crap.........

Well I see that all over this forum just as you describe. Dano has done nothing that some other members haven't. Being light hearted and making a post about something silly shouldn't get someone such grief. EDIT. OK maybe a little grief:msp_biggrin:

STIHL MS 290 Farm Boss (Extremely Hard to Start Cold)

Stihls are a different animal compared to other saws when it comes to starting, but it's not rocket science. You'll get it figured out.

STIHL MS 290 Farm Boss (Extremely Hard to Start Cold)

TAKE IT BACK! You shouldn't have an issue like that with a new saw. Did you follow the starting procedure as described in the manual? It may sound like a dumb question but they are easy to flood if you don't set it on high idle after it POPS off the first time.

    What are the odds!!!???

I've never tried to split wood that big without a splitter. That's amazing that an axe can bust that up. The red oak around here seems really stringy and is difficult to split. Nice.

Is this a good deal? What do you think?

If he ran the proper fuel/oil mixture I would think the saw would be fine no matter how long it was run. If the piston and cylinder looked good I would buy it.

    Saw Storage

I believe in the Tru Fuel and similar products to use in my saws while storing. I even use a dab to store my generators. They claim no ethanol and a 2 year shelf life. It works for me.

    2 Cycle Oil

Well, your math just convinced me to buy the 12.8 oz container instead of the 2.6 oz. Although I don't use large quantities of fuel to need the larger bottle, the savings , be it just change, does add up. I like the Stihl full synthetic just for peace of mind, works for me. Thanks...

"RAT-ROD" SAW ... does it exist?

That saw would be easy to lose in the woods! Nice.

Not everyone can or is willing to read every thread ever posted on here... though a person could use the search function if they didn't want to wait for a response. :msp_wink:The Craftsman looks nice. May have to pick one up.

How do you store your saws and etc?

In the tool shed. Ethanol laced gas removed. Small amount of Tru Fuel in each saw to store.
