Ok I see the CS620 is nearly the same price. So how does it compare to the 6100? Is there a comparable Stihl in the same price range?
Not a comparable stihl in the price range. You would have to pay more to get a Stihl that comparesto the 6100 or 620.
The 6100 and 620 are very comparable. I like the 6100 better because the AV is a bit better, and the air filtration is better. I also really like the easy starting of the 6100 and the fuel milage. All of those are subjective. I have a tore up shoulder and artists in my hands so every little bit is noticeable to me where others it may never bother. In reality most pro grade saws are excellent and you are buying which one fits your needs best and best dealer can be a big part of the buying process.
With all that said I still think for what you have described for cutting a 590 would not be a bad choice. A 6100 and 620 would be more fun. Lol

If your gonna spend 650$ might as well get a 600$ 365 xtorq and convert to 372xp. Can't go wrong with a used saw off trading post on this site, you can get a real good deal.

I'd like to run a 620 side by side with my 590 setup the same. The price difference here would cover most of a decent woods port for the 590. Is the performance gain wort the money spent on a 620?
Well it is a bit more than just performance you do get an aluminum handle on the 620, mag clutch cover, unlimited coil, and larger carb.
I am sure there are a few more differences. For me the aluminum handle would be worth a far bit just because they usually don't transmit as much vibration as plastic handles.

Ahhh! CoreyB I love it! So who are they? Picasso, Mondrian, Andy Warhol, Michelangelo?

My dealer has an Echo sale every now and then for 20% off. And he matched HD prices. That's how I got my pole saw. Saved nearly $150 on that. I just didn't know how it stacked up against other similar prices/sized saws.

I rekon that when you are ready to buy your new saw , go to said dealer and bargain with him till you get a sweet price on that CS-590. I have no experience with that saw, but many who have replied to your post, are recommending it as a good saw, at a great price for your stated needs.

My Bro recently bought a new saw on advice from the crazy saw people on this site, and he could not be happier, he got a great saw that meets his needs, and had money left over for other important things, like beer, oops... I mean an extra chain and stuff. :)

Plus he puts a tank of fuel in it and checks the tune, fills out the registration, and answers any questions. A good dealer is a great thing to have.

If you have a good dealer nearby that you trust and are happy to deal with, then count your blessings.

Oh and the sooner you can get a pro class saw in your hands, all the better.

This is true my aluminum handle mod rocked:rock:

The dealer also sells Husqvarna. I probably will end up with the CS590. At close to $320 sale price it doesn't sound like I will find a better deal. But I still wont be making the purchase till winter so plenty of time to sample the Cadillacs and corvettes of the chainsaw world. Then I can have an idea of what my next chainsaw might be.

Quite a bit gain can be made with a simple muff modd on the 590 as proved by several vids, I think the 620 comes with a more open muff and will not gain as much with a muff modd. Steve

The CS-590 is one of the best deals out there for under $400. We just finished up a job removing a HUGE oak tree that was down over a steep bank and difficult to access. The limbs were 20-30" and yielded nearly 9 cords of wood. Had to cross-cut all of it to manageable size pieces then load into a small trailer behind my quad to take it to the big trailer up at the road. The CS-590 never grumbled once, and kept three guys busy loading the hauling.

Mine is stock aside from removing the restriction under the deflector on the muffler and the limiter caps on the carb and richening it up some. It also "noodles" fantastic, doesn't even think about clogging up for any reason.......Cliff

Wow that's a load of wood. That is pretty much what I want out of a saw. My 3.7 does good but can be tempermental at times and the 5020 is getting that way (through no fault on the saw). Just need a good one to depend on so I can tinker with the rest. Any good mods for the 5020? Figure it would be a good one to learn on. It was a great 1st saw.

Consider attending a GTG.

That way, you could try different saws and make a more informed decision.

Or You could always put together a mini GTG and invite folks to bring their stuff. [emoji851][emoji851]

Someone pm'd me and said they were going to try to put one together. I hope I can attend that one. It would be nice to try out some various saws.

I've been running the bag off of my CS-590, and doing it on purpose. Trying to find a weak point in the saw, and so far it has been flawless! Makes great power for 60cc, and has a smooth/flat power curve as well, not "peaky" and lugs very well instead of pulling rpms down and stalling against the clutch, etc......Cliff
