Anyone here seen or used a Stihl MS400 CM saw? Supposed to have a magnesium piston for more power and less weight. Likely unobtanium stateside in this market and global pandemic situation, but they seem to be out in the UK now.

That would bite into the 362 market. Wonder if that's going away.
45 years of dealing with Stihl, and I still hear about a lot new things through the grape vine.
Their communications to the dealer network is second to none.

Most dealers here have not heard of the 400 or seen a 500i yet. Oh, and I got this notice looking at he Stihl Australia web site today:

STIHL is advising customers to beware of an online scam by fraudsters posing as STIHL. The scam offers the STIHL GTA 26 garden pruner for extremely low prices, in order to take payments and steal customers’ personal information.

The 400 will likely replace the 362 in North America. Though worldwide? They are still making the 260 and the 361 to sell in places like Latin America, East Europe, and South Africa. These specs from the Stihl Australia site:

The MS400: About the same weight, vibration and way more power than the 362... Stihl suggested retail US price with a 20 inch bar: $869.99
Displacement 66,8 cm³
Power output 4/5,4 kW/bhp
Weight 5,8 kg
Power-to-weight ratio 1,4 kg/kW
Sound pressure level 107 dB(A)
Sound power level 118 dB(A)
Vibration level left/right 3,5/3,5 m/s²
Saw chain pitch 3/8"

The MS362: Stihl local dealer listed price for a 362 C-M with a 20 inch bar: $789.99
Displacement 59 cm³
Power output 3,5/4,8 kW/bhp
Weight 5,6 kg
Power-to-weight ratio 1,6 kg/kW
Sound pressure level 106 dB(A)
STIHL Oilomatic saw chain type Rapid Super (RS)
Sound power level 117 dB(A)
Vibration level left/right 3,5/3,5 m/s²
Saw chain pitch 3/8"

Right under my nose- Coastal Farm had one in Marysville. never thought to check there. I assumed they would not have a great selection, especially the pro saws. They had a 661 and supposed a few more 500iRs in the back.

i had been checking specialty/power equipment shops thinking they would be my best bet.

Supposedly Coastal has the 500i in stock here, but I called several local ones and they do not have them.

Some ACE stores are Stihl dealers here, some True Value Hardware stores are also Stihl dealers here, as are most Coastal Farm and Ranch stores here. Then there are the exclusive Stihl dealers, and some are Stihl/Husky dealers. Once shop here is a rental place that sells Stihl equipment on the side. It is only a few blocks from a standard Stihl dealer. And there is a large Stihl shop out west of Portland that is a John Deere tractor dealer. Near there is a Kubota dealer that also sells Husky. Its a mish mash of mix and match here...

Nice!

anyone else in the Everett area. McDaniels in Snohomish has a decent number of 500i Rs in stock at the moment. Just saw them today (sorry Tucker).

FedEx has lost a shipment to my Stihl dealer for 2 weeks now that included my 500i and back ordered parts along with a whole lot of dealer stuff. I was so close to having one! Come on FedEx!!!

Almost 4 weeks and one of the 2 missing shipments from FedEx showed up at my Stihl dealer today, my 500i is here, pick it up Thursday. Finally!!! The 3ed part of the shipment still missing has parts to finish a ms361. Back ordered parts since October.

Yea!!! picked up my 500i this morning. It was cheaper to order it with a 36" lightweight bar than with the 28". Since I wanted a 36" for our bigger downed trees it worked out.

Price with a 36" bar $1196.99 and a 28" lightweight bar for $118.30. A partial order with a few bar and chains came in 30 minutes before I showed up and was able to get a 28" bar and RS chains.

Since he has had some 500i trickle in and go out he has only just oiled and fueled to start them. I brought my PPE with me and wanted to set the rings with a load cutting on their test tree. I told him to put on his chaps and give it a go and see what it does. Since he sells them he should run one. Needless to say, We both like it! I was happy to put a smile on his face....

They are struggling getting parts and equipment he has $110,000 in back ordered value. Now just waiting for that missing FedEx shipment that has my MS361 parts to show up..... They moved on and reordered.

My dealer in WI has pricing and even store shelf pricing tags up for the 400C. But they haven't seen a physical saw yet. Just paperwork.

Stopped in at RDO in Missoula the other day. 3rd time in a month and a half. Still no 500i. They had 14 of them a while ago, and sold them fast. Must be high demand out there, as RDO is a big Stihl dealer, and yet no 500i.

Murdoch’s in Kalispell had 3 last time I was in. No wrap handle (R) models. I am holding out for the R.

The 500i manual says to use "stihl air filter cleaner solution" anyone used the product? With a PH above 12 it must be a corrosive lye compound. how often do you change filters? On my 038mag all I used to do wash blow off filter. I'll probably get the product wash the filter and place it wet on the floor vent to dry......Have a second filter on order.

I’ve just been blowing them out and running an outerwear on it.

What size have you been using 460,660, since they don't have a listing for 500 i, picking them up at Cowlitz?

I’m not sure if Scott keeps them in stock or not mine came directly from Outerwear.
